Making fighter go to the ground if there is no action on the feet???

Why not? I'm getting tired of all these threads saying BJM should have stood up Shields...Control is part of the game...ie effective grappling. Ive seen plenty of fight were there is not action going on while standing. Does this mean the fighters should be forced to go to the ground?

Nope. It means Big John tells you to engage before he stops the fight.

Control is control. If Miller wanted up he should have....GOT UP. Call me crazy.

Hugging is not effective grappling.

Its not a real question. Just a point to show that standing fighters up is lame. Miller was banking on BJM standing them up. So he stopped scrambling towards the end.

This is my opinion on the matter as I have discussed on another thread. I feel that striking shouldnt be considered the most important skill in mma. In the case of SHields/miller. I think shields was trying to improve postion but to afraid to make a mistake and miller was waiting to get stood up by doing nothing but conserving energy. He shouldnt get rewarded. Put Shields in Millers guard first then if nothing continues stand them up.

He was constantly trying to improve position. I am partial to the BJJ aspect of mma because I have trained BJJ for 8 years. I could see how it could be boring to someone who doesnt know how hard it is to keep top control.

Why even give Miller guard? Thats a reward. He should have to move his hips and shrimp for position. If he cant then oh well.

what about counterstrikers who constantly circle away? how are they different from grapplers who slowly improve position?

I guarantee there is more time wasted in MMA by fighters circling on their feet than LnP tactics.
