Beating Soko at that point in his career was pretty big. He was coming off two huge wins himself. They weren't in the UFC you say? So what, they still happened. Who else deserves a shot? Wandy-just lost. Chuck-just lost. Jardine-beat Vera;but is inconsistent...blah blah blah.

Rampage has the best argument for a shot before Machida, IMO. He barely lost the fight against Forrest and then KTFO a legend. IF Machida beats Thiago, I don't see how you can say he hasn't proven himself. The guy is obviously good, he hasn't fought anyone that has really been able to give him a tough time. So what he isn't known for being a great finisher, that doesn't mean he isn't a top LHW. I will say, if he were able to finish more of his fights he would have more fans; but that doesn't mean he hasn't done anything to deserve a shot.

He has not faced chuck, he has not faced wanderlei, he has not faced forrest or rampage. These are the current elite fighters in the LHW. A washed up TIto does not count. He has yet to prove himself. Tito! He is a good fighter but not a great one. Why do you have to bring up fights that took place 3-5 years ago to make a case for Lyoto? The truth is that in the last couple of years he has not faced the top competition and he should not be called the "best LHW on the planet" until he proves it. He is a good fighter and if he takes out the elite guys I will admit that I was wrong but until then I'm not convinced.

I agree, to call him the "best LHW on the planet" is a stretch; and I'm a Machida fan. BUT, he is definitely up there with the best. Maybe he'll face better competition after he gets the belt

Rashad Evans flaw is that he only throws hooks which are shorter punches. Someone with a reach advantage and good straight punches could make it problematic for Rashad. Kicks would also be a good weapon against rashad... sounds like it's tailor made for Machida huh?

With the way Jackson gameplans any weakness Evans may have will be strengthned for sure.
