A little bit of digression, but here's something I've noticed about people when they want to make themselves seem more intelligent, refined, cultured, bigger, whatever.
One of my old buddies was unhappy that I didn't want to join him on the real estate bandwagon. We live in S. Cali, and houses are relatively expensive here, even for lower middle class neighborhoods. Anyways, he's a loan officer, and he's always known me as someone who's organized, pay attention to details, analytical, etc. I'm pursuing school currently, at community college, and I'm trying to transfer to a "higher tier" public university. And I'm a business admin or business econ related major. So my friend gets all pissed off that I won't be his "bitch" by helping him out with the administrative paperwork, tie up his loose ends, etc. So he givesme empty promises like, "I'll give you 1/2 the commisions." I declined, telling him in a tactful tone that I don't want to mix our friendship with business. He's notorious for living above his means, living paycheck to paycheck, etc. Anyways, so he snaps by saying that his cousin went to the best univeristies and earned a business degree, but makes shitty money compared to what he'll make. Then I ask him, "what school did your cousin earn her degree from?" "Harvard," he replied. Then I said "geez, one of the most difficult schools in the world to get accepted into, and he says, "she only makes $50K/year, and she graduated from Harvard!" "You won't end up any better!" He's pissed off at me because he can sense my reluctance and my lack of confidence in him.
The point of my story is that people talk out of their asses when they want to act like they're well-learned or experienced.

Fucking exactly, man. You summed it up perfectly. America is basically full of people always trying to one-up each other through some fantastical lie. ''I'm better because I'm cultured.'' ''I'm better because I make more money.''
To the dude who's defending accounting: It's great that you love it so much. But the fact is nobody cares, so stop making out your profession to be more important than it is. If you wanted to have fame or something you chose the wrong career.

He's right. Having a degree doesn't make you smart. Memorizing a bunch of stuff out of a book does not make you smart. You could take 99% of the people who have college degrees in America and stick them in the forest. They will have no idea what to do. In fact, they'll probably die in a few days because of lack of survival skills. Does this group of people sound smart to you?
My point is, being able to adapt to many situations while keeping your wits about you is smart. Preparation for any and all conflicts that may come your way is smart. Memorizing a bunch of shit is not smart.

The accounting guy is just trying to say not anyone off the street can get an accounting degree. From what I've seen of it you need a lot of discipline and attention to detail to be able to do that stuff. I also believe someone with a college education will have an advantage over someone who doesn't. It won't make or break a fight, but going through college forces you to multitask and learn to focus harder.
Anyone know if Hendo, W. Silva, Fedor or Gomi have any college in their backgrounds?

Exactly. Considering that most of our country is full of fatasses, I'm already impressed at anyone who shows dedication to eating right, exercising, and staying in shape. A fat accountant wouldn't impress me at all.

Compared to education, sports management or communications it isnt easy. It isnt as hard as theoretical math either.
The test is what are the average education levels of most fighters? Its probable that most MMA fighters never even went to college. This would make Chuck one of the most educated fighters.

I won't disagree with you because you're definitely right on many levels. But the fact is, it all depends on the person, you know? There are alot of people who have never taken a college class who become incredible people in both mind and body.
Also, your quote is inspirational. It reminded me of my own daily routine. I've been working out and practicing music for the past 4 months every day at least 4 hours a day and reading that quote made me realize just how far I've come in such a little time. Routine can really do amazing things for you.
