For those of you who have seen the Hughes vs. Gracie fight, let's say instead of Hughes reigning down punches when he had Gracie spread out, tummy on the floor, he grabbed Gracie'ss head like a basketball and just smashed it into the cage floor like 10 times.

Is this legal in the UFC?

What about rubbing the skin off of your opponents face against cage fence. This seems to be verya doable since so much time is spent up against the cage in the UFC>

Unless it constitutes as "spiking your opponent on his head", it should be legal. I don't know if it does.

Just out of curiosity...what's the other guy doing during all of this? Sitting limp and lifeless allowing it all to happen?

ERm, it doesn't seem realistic....I cant think of any fighters that could grab his opponent like that and be allowed to do such a thing. Imagine how hard it is to take people down whent using a full force tackle and your thinking that someone could grab an opponent by the head and smash it in to the floor.....youv'e been watching tooo many Steve Segal movies....
I cant imagine that in the hughes / gracie fight that smashing gracies head in to the floor would have caused 5% of the damage that hughes punching him in the face did.

It would be fine if you could pull if off. It would be such an odd, irregular occurance, that it would be probably applauded at first, then the'd get into the specifics of it.

Tough to make it happen though.

Legal. The reason you don't see this more often is a regular punch would land with considerably more force than any sort of head grab and push towards canvas maneuver could generate. The more popular iteration is the St. Pierre style head slam from guard, the goal there being to loosen up your opponent's grip upon you so as to allow an opening to pass to half guard or side control.

Legal. Stupid and highly ineffective as well.
