Lauzon had Knee Surgery

Mods, feel free to move this to the TUF forum if you think this belongs there.

I'm surprised this hasn't been brought up before, but Joe Lauzon had surgery to repair a torn meniscus, an injury had before TUF. I saw pictures of his knee of Facebook, and it's pretty disgusting. Here's some details from UFC Junkie:

Quote:
Last week we discussed Joe Lauzon’s intentions of landing on the UFC 78 fight card in Newark, N.J. despite recent knee surgery.

Lauzon, a rising lightweight contender and a cast member from “The Ultimate Fighter 5,” had a torn meniscus in his right knee repaired this past Wednesday. He left the hospital the same day and now plans to head to Hawaii to train with B.J. Penn, who served as his coach on the latest season of the Spike TV reality series.

Lauzon recently posted photos taken after his surgery, which can be found below. (No worries, though. They’re not nearly as gross as the photos of Forrest Griffin’s staph infection.)

Lauzon’s injury occurred before he even appeared on the show. He defeated Brian Geragthy and Cole Miller in preliminary fights before losing to eventual runner-up Manny Gamburyan in the show’s semifinals. After Lauzon defeated Brandon Melendez at The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale, he decided to get the knee taken care of.

Dan Lauzon, Joe’s younger brother and a one-time UFC fighter, told UFCjunkie.com a source that Joe should be back to normal in a couple weeks.
That's scary how injured Joe was, and how much ass he kicked on the show.

Thoughts?

To honest, a torn meniscus is about the first thing you want to tear in your knee if you had to choose. I'm not saying it was not amazing for him to perform that well with the meniscus injury, but I've known 2 guys to play entire football seasons on torn menisci (that how you pluralize it?).

Yeah, well I was talking about this in addition to his hand and foot injuries. I don't know how a torn meniscus hurts, but I'm sure it's not comfortable, and I'm sure it's not easy especially in a combat sport like Mixed Martial Arts.

No, its not at all, but I think its more of a pain deal as opposed to a fundamental break down in your knee like tearing the A,M, or PCL, or the patella. Not trying to be a troll.

With all the training with BJ, hopefully he is taken to the next level. Easily one of my favorite fighters...he can throw too, unlike Emerson...I mean WTF Emerson throws like a girl (referring to the food fight).

I wasn't saying you were dude, I'm asking myself, like I've been fortunate to avoid major injuries in my lifetime and not have surgery and stuff, I was wondering how bad a torn meniscus is in comparison. I know like the ACL/MCL would be really bad (hurts the stability of the knee)

Joe Lauzon is going to be someone to take seriously in the future. Even before the TUF show he knocked out pulver in under 40 seconds and now he is going to be training with BJ Penn. The kid is going to be winning fights left and right. cant wait for his return.
