Lack of respect for MMA in U.S.
Reading the various news stories about Cro-Cops homecoming really points to the glaring disparity between the way MMA athletes are treated in the U.S. and the way they are treated abroad. Mirko was treated as a national hero and, more importantly, a legitimate athlete. In Japan, Brazil, Croatia, and elsewhere these competitors get the respect they deserve. In the U.S. they are perceived as barbaric and sub-human. How long will it take before the sporting press in the U.S. starts to recognize the hard work, dedication, and athletic ability that is involved in this sport, and start treating it accordingly?
