Kudos to Mr. Hunt
I just posted in a very good thread started by, "Scotsmn." The thread was about comparing Mark Hunt to Mirko Cro - Cop. I mentioned Scotsmn because I wanted to give him credit for inspiring me to write my own post on the same subject. Here are my thoughts.
Sure Mark is not the greatest technical striker to ever fight(Cro - Cop is arguably better technically), but I'm always impressed by the way he viciously attacks the whole body of his opponents. Mark will attack the head, body, and legs with fast and powerful shots when the opportunity presents itself. I could name alot of fighters who can't or won't do this(that Arlovski fella for example). Mark is an extremely aggressive striker. Good luck backing him up and chasing him around(unlike Cro - Cop in more than one fight). That counts for something. Just to nitpick Hunt, he doesn't have one spectacular move(unlike Cro - Cop) to KO his opponents. He just throws fast and powerful shots until something lands flush. That works very well for him though.
We all know Mark needs to improve his ground skills(as does Mirko). Still I think his submission defense is underrated(except for on his back, that really needs work). Hunt has demonstrated an impressive ability to escape submission attempts. Keep in mind he has only been subbed by elite grapplers(Yoshida, Barnett, and Fedor). Hunt is an evolving fighter. That should be obvious to anyone who has seen all 8 of his Pride fights.
Here's a good example of how Hunt has evolved. In his fight with Nishijima, he had more than one opportunity to end the fight with an armbar against a very unskilled ground fighter. Yet Hunt wasn't confident enough in his ground skills to go for it. You could clearly see that. However in his fight with Fedor who is arguably the best submission fighter in mma, Hunt went for the submission when the opportunity presented itself. I give credit to anyone who tries to submit Fedor, even if they fail.
Cro - Cop is a great fighter, but I just don't see him matching Hunt in mma skills in the future. Mark has the edge in aggressiveness and heart by a long shot. Plus you aren't going to KO Hunt with a single shot. These three factors make all the difference. Give Mr. Hunt another year and a half or two, and he will be the premier force in mma.

It is easy to be aggressive when you have one of the best chins in the world

I don't know who's signature it is, but I think it's relevant here:
One day a meteor will hit the earth and the only thing that will stay in contact will be Mark Hunt's skull

Yep.
Mark is awesome, but if it wasn't for his physical gift of being able to eat a baseball bat to the head, he wouldn't be half as good.

Thanks man. You made excellent points and gave good examples. I'm keeping a very close eye on Mr. Hunt and I believe he might make champion one day. Go Hunt!

Check AV lol.
I like the fact that he's not afraid of the takedown and he lets his hand go all the time.....but yeah, his technique has suffered due to the care factor with getting hit in the head.
