Koscheck vs. Diaz at UFC 64? BAD IDEA
This is rumored to be happening at UFC 64 and I just don't understand why. Diaz is an incredbly marketable and fun to watch KID, but it almost seems like the UFC wants him to fail. Diaz only loses when he gets outwrestled and Koscheck is a guy who can keep diaz down at will and eek out a "blanket" decision. One, its dumb to do that to Diaz when his weakness plays right in to Koscheck's strengths and, two, its not fair to Kosheck because Diaz's ground game is sharp enough to avouid getting pounded on and submitted, but probably not good enough to get out from the bottom against a world class wrestler like Koscheck. I'm sorry, but this is a recipe for a very boring decision that makes both fighters look bad. Sure a sub or knockout could happen just like any fight, but all things considered this fight will probably be 3 rounds of Kos pecking away at Diaz while he up against the fence, but doing very little damage and earning a unanimous decision where Diaz and Kos both get up looking like they haven't even been in a fight. I like both of these guys and just think its bad marketing for them to fight right now with nothing at stake. Your thoughts?

I haven't been much of a fan of Josh due mostly to the arrogant look on his face, but I have to say he is winning em over. He obviously works hard and he seems to get better with each fight. People complain about the lay and pray, but it seems to me he is getting much more aggressive with his standup and his ground and pound.
I do think this is a bad matchup for Diaz though. They need to give him a striker.

Just because it is a bad matchup for Diaz doesn't mean it is a bad idea. It just means that the UFC isn't feeding people cans. If you are going to fight in the UFC Silva is going to match you up with the toughest guy he can.
Who else should Diaz fight? He has been fighting for a while, and had good success early on against decent competition. Then he started losing all the time and now he is trying to prove he is UFC material. He just had a fight with Neer (who is not a wrestler) and won. Now it's time to fight someone a little better than Neer and Koscheck is a kid off of TUF that has had some success and moving his way up.
I think it is a good matchup. Both are trying to move to the next level. True, I see this as a pretty easy win for Koscheck, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't happen. If Diaz can't beat a mid to upper mid level fighter, then maybe he doesn't need to be in the UFC.
Besides, I like the way it makes him look stupid when he talks shit after losing. Diaz is going to talk shit no matter what, but it's so much funnier when his face is busted up while he's doing it.
And as for Koscheck, he claims that he is only wrestling as a backup plan from now on. He is coming off of a TKO win over Goulet, and he plans on continuing the strikes. I agree that he practiced the lay n pray alot before, but I am hoping he sticks to his word and bangs with Diaz. That's what makes this fight good.

I agree with you...doesn't make too much sense ....will probably end up being a boring fight if Diaz can't keep up on the feet (which I don't think he can).

i want to see kos fight a good counter grappler or a good wrestler...someone who poses a threat to his style - if diaz fights him, the ufc peeps are dumber than i thought

yeah, and matt hughes was supposed to be showing us his "new striking ability" since UFC 45. People always stick to what works and Koscheck knows better than to go toe to toe with Diaz.

I sort of agree with Bohica, Diaz doesn't need to held by the hand. Besides BJ all the top WWs are very good wrestlers, if he can't stay off his back or work something when he's on his back then he deserves to lose. I don't see the marketability that you see Diaz either, he's skilled but he has the tendency to let fight come to him instead taking over.
