The problem, Mr. Starnes, is that we've seen you do this kind of thing before.
We watched you win your first fight on TUF, and then sit back and take it easy and basically tell Mr. Shamrock that you weren't going to train his way, with the rest of the team, for fear of injuring yourself.
Then, against Groves, you suffer this rib injury...a suspect rib injury, but okay, whatever...we'll give you the benefit of the doubt.
Then you had a few nice, good fights in the UFC. Your fight against Leben was hard fought, and well done.
However, then you go out against Belcher and tell the doctor "I can't see". It's on tape and we all watched it. However, the cut was on your forehead. Now, you know, as a fighter, that telling the doctor that you can't see means that he has to immediately stop the fight. Who knows...maybe you couldn't see. However, it didn't look that way to the fans, who were dumbfounded when you told him "I can't see" and then you got all upset and played it up as if you were shocked and angry when he stopped the fight.
Then, this thing against Quarry.
YOU have displayed a pattern of behavior here: Sometimes you go out and give it your all. However, in SEVERAL instances, you have gone out and given 50%, or started out strong and then just given up when the going got rough or you got hurt.
If you're not willing to give 100%, then you don't belong in the sport. Look at what Franklin did when he had a badly injured ankle AND a broken hand against Loiseau...THAT is giving 100%.
Nobody is saying you're not talented. Nobody is saying that you're not an exciting fighter to watch when you give it your all. However, we never know who is going to show up on the mat: The guy who can beat Leben by standing and banging for 3 rounds, or the guy who gives 50% and is prone to giving up after being injured.
I respect that you do what you do, and I respect that you are a single father trying to raise your daughter. No matter what you chose to do....fight or otherwise, I always wish you the best and hope that you and your children have happy, successful lives. However, you really do need to do some soul searching about whether or not being a professional fighter is right for you.
