People paid to see a fight and they didnt get one so thats why there is a lot of flaming towards Mr Starnes.

I was quite annoyed that I spent a good 5 minutes checking it on youtoob, could've made a sammich or fwapped or something

Kalib gets my respect for having the courage to be an MMA fighter and a relatively successful one too. I also respect that he's willing to come on here and offer his explanation. I mean, he's pretty much in agreement with everybody else saying it was his worst performance to date.

My only problem though is the story just doesnt smooth anything over. Its great that he actually came on here to address the MMA fanbase but at the same time, throwing out all sorts of excuses clearly isn't a respected practice in MMA.

Coming up with a laundry list of injuries that were not really visible on the night of the fight just isn't a way to win back fans. Broken bone in foot, black eye, lumps on head, sprained whatever.... Those injuries just dont sound all that performance hindering to me. Not like say Frank Shamrock's broken arm which he still continued to punch with. Or watching somebody blow out their knee in a fight.

Those things are easy to grasp. When you say you have a broken bone in your foot and yet all we see is running around the cage, its kind of hard to even buy into that.

To top it off, offering to show your x-rays or doctors notes just makes it sound like there is something more to prove when the truth is, none of it really matters anyway. Kalib's strategy was failing, he checked out of the fight, end of story. Going on about injuries after the fight just makes it worse. Throw in the towel if your hurt or fight. Dont run.

As it stands, I have read "official" versions of you breaking your foot anywhere from the frst kick of the fight, to the second round.

And I have several friends that are pro fighters at the highest level that I know would rather go down losing a fight that was considered exciting, than winning a boring fight.

Like "us" fans or not...without us watching, you wont be paid. I am not being disrespectful, as anyone that gets in the ring has bigger balls than I, but if I buy a PPV with a price-tag that would cost the average MMA fan a few hours of work, I want to be assured that those hours I spent working to pay for it were worth it.

But then I pretty much grew into the sport in Japan where it is the performance, not the result, that is considered so important.

Ya I think you would of been better off throwing in the towel instead of trying to show you have heart and not even fight. If he you broke your toe, you should of called the fight.

His (my) name is Mike Russell and as far as being an "opportunistic little creep", I would love to debate that with you Kalib. I am far from small, opportunistic or a creep. My article was a partisan account of the conversation we had. You made ONE reference to a comment being "off the record". i did not use said comment or the following tirade which included no less than three derogatory remarks about various people. You then went back to your original statement about talking to Joe Silva, adding a few points, which I included in my story.

I didn't write the story to generate traffic to TFN's website and as far as me "lying to you over and over again saying I wouldn't discuss our conversation", I have an MP3 recording of the entire conversation from start to finish that proves otherwise.

I know you're upset and may be regretting comments you made but blaming me is not going to change anything you said or did. The article was subjective and was meant to get your story out to help prevent the rumor mill from continuing the manufacturing of falsehoods and lies.

I am not ashamed of anything I have ever written and I have nothing to apologize about other than I am sorry that the MMA community, as a whole, has not completely accepted your explanation.

I have friendships and professional relationships with several fighters including some of your teammates (past and present) and for you to accuse me of being unprofessional is not only false, but

I have a degree in public relations. The first rule of PR is there is no such thing as "off the record", especially if you don't know the reporter. Had you said "everything else I am going to say is off the record" or "off the record" for each new point you made, I wouldn't have printed any of those points. You only said "Off the record, Dana White is............."
