Just watched Shogun X Nakamura ... *spoilers*
** i donīt know if it was needed, but i put "spoilers" in the title, for precaution ..
Guys, i was reading some comments about this fight, and was all about "Shogun got outstruck pretty badly!" ...
I didnīt see that ... they exchanged at best, 10 .. 15 punches ... and they both missed most part of then ... or blocked ... for me, in the stand up part, it was 50/50 ... even with a lot of shogun kicks and knees .... but i was really impressed with Shoguns ground game ... what a fuck was that ? some would say "Nakamura wasnīt in his night .." but damn, neither shogun .. and they displayed a nice battle on the ground .. with shogun, dominating literally every single position and move ... there was a moment , when Nak had everything to sweep Shogun, but i donīt know how, and from where, Shogun kept him there ... in another moment, Shogun used naks sweep to sweep nak again ... haha, that was fuckīn nice .. and when they was getting up, Shogun waked first to stomp nak ...
So, yes, he looked for the ground game, he wanted no part of Naks striking, but.. a guy who is for first a striker ... tooking down a world class judo fighter, and even prefering the ground game ... when most of people was thinking that Shogun should keep the fight on the feet, to survive ...
Nak couldnīt do anything on the ground... At the final moments, the judo guy was calling the striker, for a stand up fight!
So was great .. i enjoyed this fight.. a lot!
Shogun seemed overall, pretty good for me ... very intense, fighting where the fight is, as always ...

Yeah it's funny how people criticize Shogun for the fight but neglect to mention the fact he completely dominated Nakamura. Shogun's striking and cardio looked a bit off, other than that he fought a great fight. The "new" Shogun(as I'm sure people will be referring to him) does seem a tad bit less aggressive than the "old" one, but also smarter. Shogun is a champion now guys and a veteran. In the old days when he was an up and comer he was known for being an exciting fighter who was really agressive. No one expected him to win any of those fights in the MWGP, probably giving him a huge mental advantage. Now everyone know's that Shogun's the man and he's going to be the favorite in just about every fight. Not only that, but based on his reputation, people expect him to wild and explosive like he was when he was coming up but more important than that he's got to keep winning. I think Shogun understands that. He's still a really young guy, but I think we are going to see Shogun "maturing" a bit over these next few fights. Once he gets back into his groove and gets accustomed to pressure of being a champion, I think we'll see a new and even better Shogun with an improved mental game, improved strategy, and lethal efficiency in all areas of the game. I don't know if people remember but during Wanderlei Silvas 4+ year run as middleweight champion, he had a couple of fights where he didn't always go balls out and seemed to be adopting a different strategy. He got it together eventually after that and by 2003/2004 became one of the most dangerous fighters MMA had ever seen. I think Shogun will be just fine...

Bah, there's too much talk about Shogun's striking and not enough about his groundwork. He looked great on the floor.

Shogun looked like he could've possibly been sick or jetlagged. Nakamura is a really tough opponent to begin with, so I wouldn't be giving Shogun too much shit. Shogun played it smart and tried to finish the fight several times but Nakamura is tough as nails and countered Shogun alot.
So even if Shogun faught at 100%, I bet Nakamura would still give him about as rough as a time as he got in that fight.

I think he was tentative about striking with Nak, because if Nakamura gets the clinch (as opposed to Shogun working for the takedown himself) he could get Shogun in a bad position.
So really, I think it was just that he had a cold, and he never intended to leave himself open to getting thrown, and he knew that meant no pimp wild combos.

all the #1chucksuperfans like to throw the "shogun was outstriked vs. nak" because they feel threatened by shogun's meteoric rise at 205 and it's the only angle they can push to cling on to chuck's nuts and justify his place as top lhw. but intelligent mma fans know shogun as much more than a one-dimensional striker. well, except for the #1chucksuperfans.

The fight was good and everything. And as much as Shogun dominated the fight on the ground, he was just unable to submit nor inflict serious damage to Nak at all. I mean he had the full mount position like 10 times literally and nothing.
And although Nak didnt completely dominate the stand up, he was having the better of it for sure. I dont know but.... Shogun just hasnt been the same since the accident .
