However the entire time, every hardcore MMA fan knew that Pride was not only in the middle of their Grand Prix, which Silva is a part of, but planning to do a U.S. show as well.
Yeah I remember that part specifically on that PPV ...

Dana comes into the ring and says that he realizes everyone is disappointed from the Ortiz/Shamrock II fight, but has a big annoucement that can make up for things. Dana comes in there with that ugly smirk of his like he thinks he has an ACE under his sleeve. So much for that.

Chuck has been itching to fight Wandy for ever so he thought the fight was a go. Both UFC and PRIDE need to drop the BS and follow through with their comittment.

I'm glad you love making yourself look stupid. I never said I believed everything Dana says, however I have some good friends who fight in the UFC and I know how they do business. None of this maters when Wandi goes on PPV and says he wants to fight and Pride prevents that from happening it looks bad. I'm not saying Dana made a smart move by announcing it prematurley but he did not do it with malace. It would not make any sence for the UFC to build the match up and then make themselves look stupid by not following through.

Clearly a financial move by Pride to get Wanderlei some air time with the Pride shirt on. I dont know if that was a great move or not. Like it was stated in many other threads, if Wanderlei fought Chuck the UFC would have to hype the fight by showing Wanderlei fighting in Pride which would have given Pride an obscene amount of exposure to mainstream America. Wanderlei's knockouts in Pride are exactly what the American public wants. Just a crazy Donkey Kong looking man going into a fight to throw and stomp the living hell out of another poor individual. An example of this is Griffin-Bonnar 2 which was a great fight but still got boos because the guys didn't kill themselves in it.

The themes of rival schools (Chuteboxe vs. BTT) smaller fighter overcoming the odds to defeat larger, unbeatable fighter (Sakuraba vs. Silva), style vs. style (Yoshida vs. Gracie), and the laundry list of freak shows (Giant Silva vs. Sentoryu) come from the fantastic (of, or pertaining to, fantasy) popular culture of the far east.

Now, who in America generally likes comic books, cartoons, and studio wrestling?
Answer: Juveniles

Who in America generally likes professional sports (with respectable rules, regulations, athletes, etc.)?
Answer: Adults

I defy you to find fault with any portion of that logic

Agreed look at the fact that the fans just eat up crazy horses act in Pride and he has no ground game what so ever. He is a clown who gets beat by anyone who takes him down, but he is entertaining so they keep him around.

I agree with the theory that PRIDE used that time to showcase there fighter Wand in the US free of charge courtesy of the UFC!
