Joachim Hansen interview

Source: Maxfighting

Inside Scandinavia, where the cold is colder than in the rest of Europe, countries such as Iceland, Sweden, Finland and Norway are known such as the land of the Vikings. These men proved their bravery in the past centuries when they became feared by people around the World. Nowadays, they are still feared, but now in the proving grounds of MMA scene, when the Norway team FrontLine member and former SHOOTO welterweight champion, 'The Viking' Joachim Hansen is mentioned. Hansen became one of the most respected fighters in the world by his ALWAYS very-exciting performances into the ring, and his good mood out of it. Displaying calm after his brutal knock out victory in Bushido 10 over ChuteBoxer Luiz Azeredo at April 2nd. Hansen chatted to us about his thoughts and the happenings of 2006 in his career.

MaxFighting: Which was your strategy to face Luiz Azeredo in BUSHIDO 10?

Joachim Hansen: No special strategy, just keeping my guard up, the guy has a wild style.

MaxFighting: What did you think about him during the fight?
Joachim Hansen: I do not like that guy. I wanted to rip that cocky smile of his face.

MaxFighting: Did Azeredo offer you an eminent danger during the trade of blows on the feet?
Joachim Hansen: No, it did not hurt. He landed some hard punches and stomps when I was in the butt-scoot position.

MaxFighting: Did you think you were close to finishing the fight when you started the ground and pound?
Joachim Hansen: Yes, I think so, I saw that he was almost knocked out, but I could not finish it.

MaxFighting: Was you kick on his nose(which resulted the KO) a lucky strike? Can you describe that way that you finished the fight?
Joachim Hansen: I was going to kick him in the liver and he put his head down, that is what happened.

MaxFighting: What did you think about Marcus Aurelio vs. Takanori Gomi's fight?
Joachim Hansen: Aurelio was smart, and his game plan worked.

MaxFighting: Do you think Gomi's ground is his weakness?
Joachim Hansen: Yes, I believe so.

MaxFighting: What is the next for you in BUSHIDO?
Joachim Hansen: Too early to say, I just have to stay in shape and wait.

MaxFighting: Would you like to re-match Hayato Sakurai?

Joachim Hansen: Yes. I believe I can do better next time.

MaxFighting: Turning our conversation to SHOOTO, you fought a 8 seconds fight against Tatsuya Kawajiri and got disqualified by kick on the groin. How was yourfrustration over that fight?
Joachim Hansen: Well. I was trying to do an inside low-kick and he stepped into it or something like that, pretty embarassing situation, it happen sometimes, I know. Kawajiri's balls are not good at all (I heard) and there is no bad feeling between us.

MaxFighting: That fight was your chance to re-capture the SHOOTO's welterteight belt (lost to Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro in '03). What were your
expectations over for fight against Kawajiri?

Joachim Hansen: I was hoping to take my belt back[laughs]… But instead I had to stand in the jackass corner.

MaxFighting: Any chance of you facing Kawajiri again still this year?
Joachim Hansen: I do not know for sure, but I hope so. And I will do my best to make a better performance.

MaxFighting: You fought SHOOTO for the first time in 2002 and last time was this fight against Kawajiri. How do you compare these situations? I meant SHOOTO is not big like in the past?
Joachim Hansen: I have not really noticed, the first time was really cool against TAKUMI. This had been a dream for a long time to go to Japan and fight.

MaxFighting: I know team Scandinavia does not exist anymore, so which is your team now and main teammates?
Joachim Hansen: Here are some names they should look out for, Pål, Simion, Frank Lystad, Szymon Sinkevic, Ståle Nyang and Thomas Hytten. The new team is called Team Frontline. We are about 10 guys in the MMA group training and trying to develop new methods 'to slay' our enemies.

MaxFighting: What can you tell to the fans about what they can expect from your career in 2006?
Joachim Hansen: I hope I'll continue to do good, but you never know what the future brings, ill stay in shape and battle on.

MaxFighting: Thanks for your time, would you like to leave final message to the MaXfighting.com readers who appreciate you?

Joachim Hansen: Thank you and a big thank you to the MMA fans around the world. You all are the spine of MMA.

I find Joachim Hansen a very exciting fighter. I loved his knock out over Imanari, that was fuckin brutal.
