Put Shields up against GSP and see if he winds up looking like a can. GSP will make almost anybody look bad, even at their own game.

-out wrestled Kos
-out wrestled and submitted Hughes
-destroyed Serra on the ground (Serra is a BJJ blackbelt)

Those are just the recent fights.

His performance against lytle didn't look like the matt hughes of old, we all know he should have finished that fight.
Lytle has only been finished by cuts, the rest of his losses have been by decision. Don't ever write Lytle off. Hughes fought him the best way you can fight Lylte. Get real.

I'm pretty much sick of hearing about Jake Shields, This guy runs his mouth about how he can beat GSP, Hughes, etc. Yet he stays and fights nobody's in EliteXC...

Yea Shields, you keep talking....

^ For real...Shields says he'd beat just about anyone in the UFC, but he seems to be awful happy fighting the Drew Ficketts of the world in EliteXC

I think it would be a great fight.

I can't really disagree with what Shields said. I think he would beat him based on what we've seen out of Hughes lately.

Hughes next match is really going to tell us if he needs to just fade away.

Shields is a beast and i would definatley love to see him fight both GSP and Hughes, i think he beats Hughes by decision or sub but i think GSP wins this fight by decision.

Somehow I don't see Dana White spending sleepless nights figuring out how to get those two fighters together like he did with Chuck and Wandy.

I'm a Jake Shields fan but if he wants GSP he's going to have to stop dinking around EliteXC waiting for a quality fighter so he can call himself a champion and go to the UFC and make his run. And if that means he has to go through a guy "passed his prime" and a guy like Jon Fitch....so be it.

Can Shields pull off a sub??? Sure...

But, Hughes' issue in the latter part of his career seems to be getting worked on his feet before he can get his game going. I don't think he would need to worry about this much with Shields. I also see him being considerably stronger than Jake. I honestly don't really care for the guy, but I have to respect his skills, Hughes by SD.
