Jake Shields?

What is the opinion of this fighter? He is a great grappler, he beat Diego in the ADCC tournament in 2005. His record doesnt show a bunch of big names but he did beat Sakurai.

Is he a top 5 fighter? He has said he would love to fight Deigo

Definately not a top 5 welterweight. Maybe low top 10.

He also has wins over Yushin Okami, Carlos Condit, Dave Menne, and has split with Akira Kikuchi. He is a very solid fighter but there isn't a chance in hell he should be ranked in the top five as he hasn't done enough to be ranked ahead of Diego or Karo even though he might beat both of them. I wouldn't really disagree with putting him anywhere from 6 to 10.

As a note, he has had heavy conversations with the UFC so we might find out soon enough just how good he is.

Great grappler, Moranis mentioned some guys he beat (add Mach to that list), but he's boring as hell to watch. His match with Diego in ADCC was excellent though. Diego was winning it, then gassed a little, and Jake came back to narrowly win on points.

He is rumored to be coming to the UFC soon. I know they offered him the fight against Josh Neer at UFC 62, but he felt he couldn't make weight, so Diaz stepped up.

The UFC will pick up Shields sooner than later, the only thing that sucks, sans his last fight, is that he has predominately been a decision fighter...

Marcelo Garcia submitted Deigo with an arm bar. That was the only time Diego tapped

Shields is just so boring to watch, I would say there is a possibility of him being close to top 5ish ranking though. But he is a guy who is fighting to win a decision not to end the fight

No great names? He beat Kikuchi!

Solid, but boring grappler; his punches (on the ground) look like they couldnt break an egg.
