He's a solid fighter who took Hughes the distance.

I mean you could argue all you want that he doesn't deserve it, it's all opinions in the end. I have no problems with it.

It's a good question. I think they are being extra good to Sherk because he's a huge lw commodity and he's been with the UFC for a long time now. I think the best thing would be to have him fight someone else first too btw.

No, that's not a fault. That's called trying to get a LOT of media attention and attract new fans.

Big Draws are something COMPANIES will always use, no matter how stupid it really is. It's not a fault, it's business.

Other than Pulver and Penn (who might not move back down), who else are you going to put in there?

I think they want a champion already established so they can play the whole "Pulver wants his title back" thing. I'm sure they're hoping for Sherk vs Pulver next (that's a great fight), but if Florian pulls off the upset, I'm sure they'll be happy with that, too.

because you establish yourself as a fighter... lets get real, if your a beast and one of the best at one weight chances are (why fighters cut weight) that you will be more of a force at a lighter weight... if i remember right didnt randy get a shot instantly at the interm lhw belt vs chuck their first fight??? do you think they would make franklin or GSP start out againt tuffers if they moved up??? hell no

Because the UFC has few other viable options at this point. The division just got started back up. A guy like Yves Edwards (who would have been in line for a shot) just got beat.

If it were me, I would hold off on rewarding the title just yet until two true top contenders establish themselves as being close to the best (neither Sherk or Florian have done that IMO).

i agree and have been asking this question for a while now. There definately needs to be a couple qualifying matches before a title fight is set up. Right now I would say the only people who should be in the conversation for a lw title fight are Pulver, Hominek, and maaaaybbee florian. Florian vs Sherk, Pulver vs Hominek--- the winners fight for the belt. That's how I think it should go down. Give melvin another fight in the meantime, maybe against the winner of yves/stevenson.
