The impact of Strikeforce on the sport of MMA
The Strikeforce event will be huge this Saturday, but what sort of impact will it have on the sport in terms of profitability, TV ratings, sponsorship deals, and expanding the fan base?
Good read...

I dont think it will do that much, if people watch, then they do more events, you cant really say what its gonna do.
If they do big numbers, them maybe more sponsors would be willing to step up, being that its on network tv rather than cable, I dont know.
right now its a free event on network tv, everything is set up for them, no boxing PPV, live UFC event, no baseball playoffs, no huge college football games, there best card they have put on, the number 1 HW in the world. Its set up for them to do well, they have to do more than 4 million viewers for it to be a success.

After Fedor gets knocked out this Saturday there would be no Strike Force.

Great article. I think he nails a bunch of good points. Summary: Wait and See.
I wonder how many people will tune in, realize Kimbo isnt fighting, and get bored.
I also think that not being able to capitalize quickly on any momentum will hurt SF. How many UFC events will happen before the next SF card? How will SF counter that lack of media attention? We know what UFC is going to do. They will have guys like Randy Couture, BJ Penn, Diego Sanchez, Forrest Griffin, Kimbo and Tito Ortiz all getting a ton of pub in the leading weeks. All momentum Fedor/Rogers gains will be neutralized with in a month. This will be an unfortunate recurring theme until SF has enough talent to put on more cards.

IMO it will do worse than EXC's last event.
Unfortunately Fedor doesn't have the same appeal to the casual fan as Kimbo does.

Either that or Hollywood will swoop in and fire Rampage, Have Brett Rogers play BA Baracus (even if they have to reshoot everything) and a new star is born.
I agree that SF will take a MAJOR hit if Fedor goes down. One i dont know if he can recover from. They, more than the UFC, needs a superstar-dominant champion.

SF has the impact on MMA that a fart has on methane levels in the atmosphere.

I think because of M1 and their greed playing him as their only card, the pressure mounts on Fedor to stay undefeated, as a result, he would not be the same fighter in the ring. Because losing a fight now means losing EVERYTHING for him.
