The Truth of the "Royce Tapped Theory" Revealed
Posted by Big John at the underground. Read up fellas and next time think before falling for a stupid conspiracy thery.
Okay here we go. You may not like me, or what I have to say, but here is the truth to all of the crap I have been reading about the Hughes Gracie fight.
Royce did not tap. I stopped the fight. I have read where people say I helped Matt by telling Royce to get out or move. If that is what you think then you are a fool. Every fighter is told the same thing. Here it is what they are told in the fighters meeting and again in their dressing room...........If you are put into a bad position and your opponent starts hitting you with punches that are causing you damage you are going to hear me tell you Move, Get out. That means that you need to attempt to move your position to take away what your opponent is currently doing, or attempt to physically stop your opponent from causing you damage. I dont care if you are successful in your attempt to stop your opponent, as long as you try to move or try to take away his ability to cause you damage. As long as you try to move I will let the fight go on. If you here me say Move get out and you dont try, or you cannot move or stop your opponent from causing you damage, that is saying that you are unable to defend yourself, if you dont want to tap and you want to put it on me go ahead, because you know that I am going to stop the fight. So very simply if you want to stay in the fight you must attempt to move.
Next...Matt hit Royce with illegal elbows. Bulls#@t. Matt did not hit Royce with any illegal elbows. The only illegal elbow is one thrown with the hand straight up in the air and elbow coming straight down. 12 to 6 on the clock. Matt did not do that at anytime. You are allowed to bring your hand across your opponent and deliver an elbow strike coming from say 10 to 4. That is what Matt did.
Matt hit Royce to the back of the head. Absolutely, but not with an illegal blow. The back of the head in the Unified Rules is like a mohawk hair cut. The centerline of the head with 1 inch variance to either side. The blow must be a direct and intended blow meaning a straight punch to the centerline of the head or neck. That is not what Matt did. If you watch the fight Matt threw everything either crossing the body or swinging wide toward the side of the head. If the punch lands behind the fighters ear that is a good punch and that is where some of Matts punches were landing.
There are always going to be people who are upset when the fighter they want to win, loses. Royce is not making any excuses, and he does not need yours. He went into the fight with a warriors heart believing that he would win the fight. It didnt happen, so what. It does not take away from anything the man has accomplished in his life. Maybe some of the keyboard warriors around this place should have Matt Hughes mounted on their back pounding their head to see just how devastating of a position it is, especially when it is someone as good and as powerful as Matt Hughes on your back. Royce did his best. It is easy to sit back and say oh he should of done this or that, but when you are having your head bounced off of the canvas, it can alter your ability to clearly think things out.
I have always cared about Royce. I started in Jiu Jitsu with Royce and Rorion. It broke my heart to see him being pounded in that fashion. I knew he would never tap. My job is to give him the chance to stay in the fight if he is in a bad position. I did, and he was unable to stop what was occuring. Sometimes you need to protect the fight not only from his opponent, but also from himself.
Take Care.....John
