If Gonzaga beats Couture, than there should be two #1 ranked HW's
Just like the title says, if Gonzaga beats Couture than there will be 2 fighters ranked #1 in the world. Emelianenko Fedor and Gabriel Gonzaga. With the potential acquisition of the UFC HW title, and coming off of a destruction win over the former #2 ranked HW Mirko Cro Cop, Gonzaga will have to garner consideration as the consensus #1 HW in the world on this forum.
But, you can't be ranked #1 without defeating the immortal that has become Emelianenko Fedor. Fedor has proven time and time again that he has unbelievable talent, and a training regime that makes a daily workout look like a day on the couch., Not only is Fedor the best fighter in the world at the moment, but he is also one of the smartest fighters to have ever competed in MMA. However, due to Fedor not being able to fight some of the top ranked HW's in quite some time for whatever circumstances, Fedor should not be ranked higher than Gabriel Gonzaga in my eyes, and I hope the eyes of many others.
So basically what I am saying is that if Gonzaga beats Couture, than when all of the MMA websites produce their own MMA rankings the HW rankings should look like this:
Heavyweight Rankings
1. Emelianenko Fedor
1. Gabriel Gonzaga
2. etc...
Just so there's no confusion with the Fedor bandwagon, and to prevent any unnecessary flaming this in no way means that I think Gonzaga will beat Fedor. I think Fedor is the best fighter in the planet, and although it would be very possible for Gonzaga to beat Fedor, I would have to put my money on Fedor due to experience, intelligence, and obviously his fighting ability.

Well if you take MMA Weekly's rankings GG would only be beating the number 5 HW. So he wouldn't move far. not that it matters. rankings are lame.

beating randy won't make him ranked #1. I'm not sure how you can even make that argument. GG is ranked 3rd now and is fighting randy (ranked 6th). how does that make him #1?

I don't think there should be two fighters ranked #1.
I think if Fedor wants to keep his #1 ranking for a while longer, him and Zuffa should figure out a way to come to terms so Fedor can come fight in the UFC. I also don't think Gonzaga should be ranked #1 if he beats Couture either. Now, if he beats Nog too, that's a different story.

Having two #1's doesn't help anybody put to rest whos the #1 fighter in the world...
Oh, they're both #1...I don't understand what that would mean (I understand your logic etc), but, rationally its nonsensical.

Well I don't think rankings for MMA are lame, they just don't make much sense.
only in the sense that a #3 ranked fighter can still get knocked out or submitted by a no name, or a #20 ranked fighter.
Its the random variability, or as Pat Mil. said "in a sport with so many weapons" rankings don't hold up when you actually place ranked vs ranked (meaning, they aren't useful for predictions as much as other sports).

If Gonzaga beats Randy he will be the UFC heavyweight champion, and that is what is really important. Not some stupid subjective rankings.

Randy is ranked number 6 because of the great depth in the HW division. The Top 6 or 7 HW's are all amazing. That doesn't take anything away from Randy's talents that he's ranked 6. If he beats Cro Cop than Randy, that is a huge accomplishment. Randy is a great fighter, and it is very difficult to beat him.
And judging by your own logic of needing to beat higher ranked HW's, Gonzaga already beat Cro Cop in devastating fashion. It's interesting because both of Fedor and Gonzaga's biggest wins are Cro Cop.
