I may have already commented in this thread, but regardless, the thought is correct.
Nog was just as respected as a HW champ as Fedor, if not more. Nog was the well rounded champ, before there was many well rounded champs. Maybe it is only because MMA has evolved, and I have come to expect more upsets, but when Fedor beat Nog the first time, it was similar to the Red Sox coming back from 0-3 in the playoffs and beating the Yankees and then winning the world series.
Nog appeared to be the guy that you couldn't beat. You may get the upper hand on him from time to time, but he would grind it out and then sub you. Watching Fedor dismantle him, was the most amazing thing that I have seen to date.
Imagine if a relatively unknown guy had two fights in the UFC, happened to get a title fight, and then destroyed the champ in a way never seen before. This is what Fedor did.

I'm 'ttt-ing' this because an idiot thinks that we(sherdogger's) respect Big Nog just because hes on TUF and we hate lesnar...
Nog...um..
no dude, nog was always respected/loved on this site.
- never been finished
- 4 losses in 37 fights
- 2 split decisions that he avenged and the other two were against the best MMA fighter ever.
- NOBODY fought and beat more top ranked fighters than nog. Not even Fedor.
- First guy to win the belts in Pride and UFC.

His record would be a very impressive 30-2 with his only 2 losses being avenged in very convincing fashion. His loss to Hendo IMO was complete bullshit and he proved that to be true when he armbarred Hendo in the rematch. Barnett's win over Big Nog was in a 2 round GP fight and Big Nog IMO convincingly out struck and out wrestled and out grappled Barnett in their rematch in the 2nd and 3rd round.
30-2 record(never been finished despite his losses) w/ no unavenged losses and wins over Cro Cop, Werdum, Sergei, Barnett, Ricco,Herring 3x, Schilt, Sapp, Coleman, Enson, Hendo, Goodridge and Big Tim if he wins tonight.
"If" Fedor never existed and Big Nog gets a win over Tim tonight, could anyone in their right mind make the argument that Big Nog isn't the greatest fighter ever? I dont think so but lets see how people respond. What do you think?

If fedor never existed you would have about 20 posts....

Nog has faced better competition than Fedor, and more consistently.
Coleman, Schilt, Herring x 3, Werdum, Mirko, Sergei, Sylvia, Schilt, Barnett x 2, Ricco, Henderson, Fedor x 3.
He lost to Barnett, but then again he avenged that loss. The loss to Hendo was rubbish. The victory against Ricco was total horseshit however, and I think those who defend Nog there on the basis of rules are just nuthugging; Nog lost that fight guys, there's no way around it.
Then again, I think Fedor lost to Arona. In all, you can say Fedor is greater because he beat Nog. But the thing is he hasn't fought the same competition. Fedor fights a top opponent every two years: Brock faces top competition more regularly than the alleged top fighter in the world. Whatever the reasons may be for this, the fact is he doesn't fight the top dogs.
Gonzaga, Werdum, Sergei, Barnett, Couture, Arlovski, Brock, Mir, Antonio Silva, Overeem... those are the guys he should have been fighting in these last couple of years.
Instead he fought Coleman, Lindland, Choi and Sylvia; only the latter being a significant opponent. That being said, it is irrelevant whether he couldn't for managerial reasons, ducking or anything.
We simply CANNOT assume that if Fedor would have been fighting the top fighters consistently he wouldn't have lost, just because he's beat Mirko, Sylvia and Nog. Styles make match ups, and all of the fighters in the abovementioned list present legit challenges. We don't know if Fedor would have lost to any of these guys.
It is easy to remain on top and claim Fedor is the greatest on the basis of being undefeated. But look at how often Pierre has been fighting top contenders for the past three years. Compare it to Fedor.
One cannot be so naive or blind so as to not notice that Fedor just hasn't been tested against the majority of the current top 10. And the fact of the matter is that that fact alone justifies the skeptic in saying: we don't know if Fedor is the best in the world. We simply don't know how a fight with Barnett, Couture or Arlovski would go on. He can certainly be ranked as #1 because of his recent victory against Sylvia, although he was risking demotion due to inactivity against top competition.
His fight with Arlovski is extremely relevant at this point. But as of now, Fedor's GOAT status is truly an exageration from the hordes of nutthuggers who wants to think he is some sort of MMA God. There's lots of fighters out there, lots of new guys who are putting their asses on the line against the best. Nog is a prime example. If Fedor does not do this regularly then he does not deserve to sit on the throne forever.
