I agree 100%. Look at the resume, he fought Nakamura (W-Sub), Alex (W-Sub), Hunt (W-Sub), Big Nog (W - Dec), CroCop (L), Nastula (W-Sub) in one year. Now hes fighting Nog again, who is a top HW.

As to Klotz's comment: I think that anyone who saw the first fight would say that it was extreamly close (it was a split decision). Further, that fight was shorter than a regular fight (10, 5 rather than 10, 5, 5)...while some people may think that doesnt make much of a difference I would say it make all the difference considering it went to a such a close decision. That last 5 min could have ment all the world to either fighter, espically given how the first 15 min went.

Win or lose at Shockwave, I think Barnett should be fighter of the year. Not only did he go what will be either 7-1 or 6-2, he did it against some of the toughest competition in the world. There are people who are considered good fighters who fight this many top level guys in their career, forget about in one year. I think the voting should be closed on this one.

I don't think you can say Nog arguably won the fight. According to Pride judging criteria, having your opponent in a kneebar at the very end of the fight is worth about a billion points.

Also I think he is easily the fighter of the year already. Sure GSP had 1 great fight, so did Anderson Silva, CC did good but he fought some MWs... maybe one of them could have had the FIGHT of the year. But if you want to call someone FIGHTER of the year, Josh Barnett hands down has fought a higher number and calibre of opponents than anyone else and performed amazingly well.

Except in the OWGP he his first two opponents were about 25% of a test compared to what Josh had to go through. Minowa/Yoshida <<< Aleks, Hunt for a natural HW.
