Ken/Tito- another angle
What's up guys-
Been reading sherdog forums for a while now, and been an MMA fan for years- just been too lazy to ever subscribe and start posting.
Anyways, I just wanted to give my two cents on the Shamrock/Tito fight. BTW- I know I deserve to be blasted considering how many threads this fight has got already- I apologize in advance. It's just that the point I wanted to make, although touched on in threads refuting the early stoppage- has never got a thread of its own.
Everyone is complaining about the early stoppage...what about everything leading up to that point? Shamrock had absolutely no gameplan whatsoever- he just let his anger get the best of him and bum-rushed Tito. That alone makes him deserve his loss. Don't get me wrong, the sentimental side of me wanted Ken to win (knowing he was the heavy underdog. also, I wanna mention that I also like Tito, and respect him as a fighter- it's just that Ken wanted it sooooo bad, and it always sucks to see a Legend fall), and I was crushed when Shamrock lost the fight in about a minute- but who the hell rushes into a wrestler (one of the best at 205, I might add), practically belly-to-bellying him? Take Chuck for instance, a wrestler-eater-upper. Liddell stays on the outside, and from the distance uses his footwork and striking advantage to KO his opponent. Same goes with Cro Cop. Now, I understand Ken's striking doesn't come anywhere near Chuck or Cro Cop's ability, but on the standup, anything can happen. Let's face it- Tito is better on the ground and on the stand up, but all it takes is one punch to change the pace of the fight- or end it. Throw into consideration the fact that Ken is a tough SOB, and there would have been a better chance to take it to decision (still would have lost, but not in an embarassing fashion like their last fight).
Anyways, I know this isn't new to many of you, but hopefully people who still thinks the feud didn't get any closure will at least consider this point. Shamrock came to the match without a good game plan- falling in the same hole twice. Couture embarassed Liddell the first time, but Liddell went back to the drawing board, worked on his footwork, and came back and won, deservingly, his next two encounters with Couture. A fight isn't just physical ability and technique- it's also about overall strategy. Fedor's career is proof.
Let me know what you think...and don't take my headoff on my first post.
