I miss the UFC/PRIDE wars already....The passion is dead!

Ahhhh I miss those good ol’ days. I have been a self described “lurker” in these forums for quite some time. And what I’ve noticed is a sudden shift in the mentality of these forums. This shift may be for the better or for the worse, that will be determined in time. But what I
want to draw your attention is what I notice in the here and now.

The buyout of my beloved Pride by the UFC has killed the rabid zealotry and loyalty in these forums that has given me so must amusement and entertainment for the last few years. Pride Nuthuggers versus UFC Nuthuggers, WWE versus WCW, the Yankees versus the Red Socks. Few competing organizations have invoked such fierce passion and animosity amongst their fans. We all are MMA fans, and are educated (by the looks of some of the posts to some extent) but no matter how objective we try to be we were all nuthuggers to one of these hallowed organizations. For instance, I love MMA. I have been following this sport for a number of years. I have a deep profound respect for many UFC fighters (Liddell, GSP, even Tito Ortiz). However, I am a self professed PRIDE nuthugger (for life)!
And that was what was so entertaining about these forums. After any event whether it be a Pride or UFC event I could always expect to see the UFC nuthuggers berating the Pride nuthuggers and vice versa. It made for some lively debates. And no matter how immature the poster was in his response, he or she added a little bit to the discussion.
Now for the crux of my post. After the buyout I anticipated a time where fans acclimate to the new world order. But with a UFC and Pride event fast approaching, I believed there would be a last volley of the UFC/PRIDE posts. The last Pride event where my beloved GOMI got subbed by Diaz using a SICK Gogoplata, hearing all the TUF/UFC nuthuggers heckle all the pride fans was saddening but lively. “GOMI sucks”, “GOMI got owned”, “Pride sucks” was just a couple of the comments that were launched from the UFC side. The PRIDE nuthuggers defended (honorably) their fighter with the same amount of passion that I have come to expect.

However, yesterday when GSP got KTFO by Serra I anxiously awaited a volley from the PRIDE nuthuggers. Instead what I got was an almost unanimous chorus of posts saying “that’s what’s good about MMA anyone can win on any given night” blah blah blah” ,“better luck next time GSP”, “War on GSP”, and “A lively effort GSP” . My question is this…WHERE’S ALL THE PASSION? Why weren’t these comments written when Gomi lost? I understand that any fighter can lose on any given night, that’s what makes MMA so fun to watch. However, with the buyout it seems that all us MMA nuthuggers have lost all passion.
An example of the lack of passion that I’m seeing in these posts, is like a Yankees fan saying to a Red socks fan after a Yankees loss “That was an outstanding pitching display by Daisuske today, hopefully we’ll play better the next time we face”. See what I mean? Both fans love baseball, yet they mock each other and that’s what makes the sport even more fun.
Please share your thoughts. Is this an isolated incident? Or a harbinger of what’s to come?

Wow well thought out post Panda. I am surprised no one responded to this by now. I think that much of the rivalry will go the way of the dinosaurs, but that fans will be able to see some good fights in the future.

I’m not.....how many Pride/UFC nuthugging contests do we really need......at least now we can talk about MMA, not fucking Pride vs UFC so much.

it does feel weird. I always loved Pride and Ufc with a slight favoritism to the ufc only because it's the top american org. but what I miss the most is comparing the fighter signings I liked to see who was signing the better fighters and in 2006 and 2007 ufc was killing pride which was something ufc has never done. but now it doesn't matter cause the fighters don't have a choice in where they fight now. but that's all I miss.

I doubt that we will see that type of passion again especially from my side. I use to love Pride but now Pride really does not exist to me. Sure there is a org owned by zuffa by the name of Pride but it is not the Pride we all new.
By the way like I said pretty soon Fedor will leave to Bodog.
Now I will be watching IFL and Bodog pay per views.
This Monday its Frank Shamrock vs Ken SHamrock on the IFL.
