I don't think Couture can beat Nog

That's probably the reason he didn't accept the fight. Nothing more to prove my ass. He got tapped by inferior grapplers compared to Nog three times. Flame away.

Nog is the worst possible style matchup for Couture. No matter where Couture takes the fight, he'll always be in a ton of danger. He also can't count on finishing the fight, cutting his opponent, or his opponent gassing out before he does.

If the fight stays standing, Couture will have to deal with a very competent striker who has reach, strength, chin and cardio advantage on him. He'd also have to worry constantly about a takedown, which would hinder his striking game somewhat

If Couture turns it into a clinch-bullying game, Nog will eventually inevitably get a takedown

If the fight hits the ground for whatever reason, even with Couture on top, Nog is way too dangerous and would eventually sweep Couture.

That said, Couture is a gamer and wouldn't ever duck anyone because he thought he couldn't beat them

Couture could probably Greco clinch and manhandle Nog pretty easily if he did it to Gonzaga. As far as I can tell Gonzaga is every bit as good on the feet and on the ground as big nog. Both are world class JJ guys.

Nog won't quit as easily as Gabe though, so this fight would go the distance. Randy has great sub defense though, works better in the cage, and will easily overpower Nog. Randy by decision.

i think Randy Couture's theme song sums it up nicely

"And I ran, I ran so far away.
I just ran, I ran all night and day."

I don't think you can rate Nogueira and Gonzaga on the same level, Gonzaga is 1-2 against top competition and Nogueira has tons of wins over top competition. His Jiu Jitsu is way better adopted to mma, his hands are better and his cardio is way better too. I don't see Couture passing Nogueira's guard as easily as he did with Gonzaga.

I think Couture's only chance would be beating Nogueira by points, but Nogueira won't quit and is dangerous from every position and would find a way to win sooner or later.

I agree with the TS. This is the worst possible matchup for Randy (other than Fedor of course), Nog is better than Randy at every aspect of the fight game. The only chance Randy would have is by TKO due to a cut.

Agree'd in fact Nogeria waiting in the wings for a title shot is the main reason Randy retired. He wanted fedor because he knows he matches up really well with him. And he knows Nog can easily neutralize everything he is good at.

Sucks... because I wanted Nog to win the title and then lose it to Sylvia. Not just lose to Sylvia for the Vacant title....

Oh well.

I think Couture wins, actually.

His sub losses were YEARS ago, and if you don't think his sub defense has gotten better, you're delusional.

He wasn't subbed against Ricco, Barnett, or Gonzaga. All of them have a sub game as good, if not better, than Nog does.
