I bet you never thought you'd hear this.
I wish Tim Sylvia was still champ.
No, not because I dislike Randy or any other fighter for that matter. The thing I love about Sylvia is he always ruins hype. All of these fighters who come in and are supposed to be unstoppable and can't be beat are beaten by Sylvia.
At points, through sheer spite it seems, he comes into a fight and does what you hate: beats your favorite fighter convincingly.
The reason I bring this up is because this Gonzaga nonsense is only going to get worse. If Sylvia was still champ he would beat Gonzaga. Here is why:
First, let me point out that I'm not taking anything away from Gonzaga. He had a better gameplan than CC and came out and beat him. He was the better fighter that night.
Gonzaga's stand-up: Frantic and untested. Sylvia would be able to pick him apart all fight. A few solid jabs would make Gonzaga think about stepping in with Sylvia. Something CC didn't do. Also, his "heavy hands" can't be any heavier than AA and he couldn't get a shot in the second and third fight.
Gonzaga's ground game: How many "submission specialists" have subbed Sylvia? The only one I can remember is Mir. Sure AA did it, but only after a near TKO. Gonzaga won't be able to shoot in or get a clinch and take him down.
To met Gonzaga is just a better version of Assuerio Silva. The first round Gonzaga will come out like a house of fire and go for the KO. He will expend all of his energy then trying to take Sylvia down and get knocked out in the third or fourth round.
Damnit Tim, why did you have to lose that last fight?!
