Icon3 I'm still skeptical of Houston Alexander!

Ok, let me begin by saying that Houston Alexander is a bad motherfucker that I would pay to see any night of the week! However, even with that said, I am still a skeptic of his true greatness!

He looked great in his 2 fights, but you have to put them in context.
  1. Alexander vs. Jardine: He was caught by Jardine and almost KO'd himself before he landed his own punches that wobbled Jardine making him dizzy and a sitting duck for Houston's power. This fight showed Houston is extremely strong and if he hits you he'll melt you. However, Jardine is slow and doesn't have great foot work which made him a great opponent here.
  2. Alexander vs. Sakara: Alright, you can take this fight for what it's worth! I guess Allessio got this fight because Elvis Sinosic was busy! We just seen Drew McFeddries destroy Sakara a few fights back. This fight again showed Houston is a powerhouse that will KO anyone he hits! However, hitting Allessio isn't hard and KO'ing him proves little!

I still think Houston is a great fighter and I love watching him fight because of his agressive style. I just am still skeptical because he is 35 and I want to know where he's been! I also want to know what will happen to him once he fights a Liddell, Rampage, Wandy or Shogun who won't stand right in front of him and will hit him back!

Am I the only skeptic or are you ready to label Houston a contender? A top tier LHW Fighter?

He's on a bit of a hype train, haven't seen any real skill yet. Just very tenacious and he definitely has power.

I understand your arguement, but one thing no one really thinks is every fighter in the UFC is a top fighter in the world. So if you have all the top fighters in the world and one man is getting so much recognition, this means he is the real thing. He does need to fight someone at that next level though for sure, he's proven he belongs in the UFC now it's time to prove that he's a top tier fighter.

I read an interview with him on mmajunkie.com and it said he's been fighting amateur for years, sometimes fighting multiple times per night. So he's just being discovered very late is all. I think he's starting to show us that he has some of the best dirty boxing skills / brawling in the game. Very excited to see a top fighter fight him.

First of all...Houston wasnt hurt from Jardine's punch....he lost his footing. I hate when people think someone got rocked from a punch when you just lose your footing...just like Rampage knocked Hendo down...but he lost his footing,, its not that he got rocked. Shit happens to me sometimes...just a little punch can throw you off if you have bad footing...not that you got rocked by a punch.

I'd like to see Houston vs. Soukodjou - they're in similar situations.

Houston is the same as Soko in a sense. 2 quick fights without really showcasing anything more than being able to hit really hard. Pride ***s will go on about how great Arona and Lil Nog are though.

Except HA's victories have been against must weaker comp than Soko's have been. Virtually cans IMO. Still, he does bear watching in the future, I am just not going to annoint him until he wins against some higher level comp.
