How is this situation going to effect the future for Nick Diaz?

(This is not a Diaz bashing thread, just questioning his ability to get past this speed bump)

He got quite irate when he lost the fight with Condit and promptly retired...

With all the fuss his camp stirred up, it prompted the UFC to put together a rematch...

Now Nick kind of shot himself in the foot with his shady lifestyle...

Will Nick be able to pull it together in the possible year he will have off and come back as a contender, or will this be the 'bud' that broke the 'druggies' back?

maybe the time off will do him some good, I don't think he has had a break in a long time

I dont know how Diaz will react. Hes always fought a few times per year and stayed active. Will he be a contender in 1 1/2 years? I doubt it unless something really lights a fire under his ass. I hope he comes back motivated and ready to be a contender/champion

I think the UFC will become hesitant about Nick and title shots.

Its kind of hard to back a guy that gets popped for weed during an (interim)title fight.

Calling him shady for using a natural medicine is stupid.

Calling a marijuana user a "druggie" is equally dumb.

He'll take a little time off, come back, and people will forget he was ever gone. Hopefully this time he wakes up and realizes he is holding himself back.

This. On top of skipping his press obligations earlier and the retirement rant about the decision I don't see why the UFC wants to stick up for him, that's three PR headaches in the span of two fights back

Correct.

He is very hard to back because of his drug use and his inability to be punctual. He just wants to book a fight, then fight that fight. He doesn't want all the stuff in between. It's a great mentality to have had back in the day, but if UFC wants to become mainstream and declare their athletes as "professionals", then their athletes have to conduct themselves as "professionals".

There is always a few screws loose in professional athletes now a days, I just don't see Nick having the mental strength to be able to pull it together and go for another run at things.

That being said, the Diaz attitude, or persona, will sell some PPV's. Especially a Diaz vs GSP PPV. He would be a great heel and the UFC would profit a TON off of him getting a crack at GSP.

Nick will always be a tough fight for anyone in the top 10 in the WW division, but he will only become champ when he gets his shit straight.

Spare me...

Marijuana = drug

Drugs = Illegal and bad

Smoke marijuana and your a druggie.

Using illegal drugs as a professional athlete when you GET TESTED for said drugs to be ABLE to perform your job, is pretty shady to me.

I don't need the hippies and gansta's flockin' this thread and debating drug use.

If it was ok to smoke weed then Diaz won't get suspended then, right?
