Correct.
He is very hard to back because of his drug use and his inability to be punctual. He just wants to book a fight, then fight that fight. He doesn't want all the stuff in between. It's a great mentality to have had back in the day, but if UFC wants to become mainstream and declare their athletes as "professionals", then their athletes have to conduct themselves as "professionals".
There is always a few screws loose in professional athletes now a days, I just don't see Nick having the mental strength to be able to pull it together and go for another run at things.
That being said, the Diaz attitude, or persona, will sell some PPV's. Especially a Diaz vs GSP PPV. He would be a great heel and the UFC would profit a TON off of him getting a crack at GSP.
Nick will always be a tough fight for anyone in the top 10 in the WW division, but he will only become champ when he gets his shit straight.
