how much tape footage do fighters watch?
In the same manner a football team studies tapes, how much do you think fighters watch footage of their upcoming opponents previous fights? I know it is going to vary from fighter to fighter. I have heard some fighters say that they train the same way for every fight and others say that they modify their entire gameplan based on the strengths of opponents. How much do you think tape watching plays in role in gameplans and winning percentages?

some fighters say that they dont watch any tapes at all, anderson silva is one that comes to mind. his trainers watch the tapes not him.
im sure alot of guys have their trainers watch the tapes and then adjust their training accordignly. it could be bad mentally to watch your next opponent own people over and over and could get in your head. Though if i was pro fighter curiousity would get to me and i would want to watch all the fight tapes i could

I think that tape watching is essential. I agree that you cant let the opponents abilities get into your head. You have to go into it knowing that you can beat the guy and use the tapes to find his weeknesses and habits.

i bet sometimes it can be detremntal to watch tapes
would you want to see chucks tapes of him brutally knocking people out over and over again thinkin "i'm his next opponent"
fuck no
let the coach look at them and let the coach work out a gameplan
thats just my view though
it probably works opposite aswell, if you were to watch a fighter whos last couple of fights were poor you might take him easy and get knocked out

As a amatuer almost none. We don't have alot of tape to study. I train with some pros and I would say it is about the same for them. The guys in the big leagues have alot more tape to watch.. Our big thing, is find out who/what this guy is, wrestler, bjj, kb. And frankly it doesn't matter, cause you hve to be able to do everything, and you want to go in there and impose your will on him. So what ever you are good at, that is what you want to make him do.
If I could spot things in other fighters, I would.

Its a good point about affecting them mentally, but a true professional would not let that happen.

Some fighters watch no tape.
Tape is not as important when fighters can improve so dramatically between fights.
