I think blood, as shallow as this sounds, can take the match up a notch or two. Once you can physically see the damage one opponent has done to the other and vice versa, it just pulls you that much closer to the fight. Of course there have been terrific fights without any blood at all, and I'm not trying to say that a fight with blood > a fight with no blood. I'm just saying that in Sean Sherk's case, seeing him bleed constantly in his fight versus Florian made me want to stick through the match and watch the entirety of it.
Ever since I saw Bloodsport as a kid, I've always liked seeing people getting busted open and then seeing the next match take place where two guys who were completely fine would be wrestling on a blood stained ring/octagon floor. Maybe it's just me?
