How does Sonnen TD A. Silva?

I know Sonnen's wrestling is world class, but I really don't see the explosion he would need to take a cautious A. Silva down. I envision Silva keeping a lot of distance and not allowing Sonnen to get him against the cage. Silva would just picking him apart from a distance. I would be amazed if he made the same risky mistakes Nate made with flying knees or getting too aggressive. Especially since Anderson is more of a counter puncher and has really great patience.

Leites took Silva down, I'm pretty sure Sonnen can. Question is if Silva gets controlled like Nate or not, or if he gets subbed.

I agree....Sonnen looked good at 109 but I don't foresee alot of success taking Silva down. If he does manage it, which I think he will a very hard time, I think Silva is a lot more comfortable on his back the Nate was. Either way, I see Silva taking this one if he performs to his ability.

I don't foresee Sonnen getting very many opportunities to clinch, but in a 5 round fight obviously there will be a few. I have a feeling Silva will be very cautious and avoid the clinch at all costs.

And to answer the TS, he can take Anderson down just not as easy as some people think. If he tries to close the distance like he did against Nate, being aggressive with strikes and coming forward he's going to get caught and hurt. If he shoots from too far out, he's going to catch a knee, and Silva's knees >>>> Nate's both in accuracy and power. And Silva's TDD is very underrated on these boards anyway.

being a master of greco roman wrestling, Sonnen (R) is very capable of closing the distance and engaging the clinch. The way he tossed Okami around makes me think he can do that to anyone in the MW division

Hendo got him down pretty easy, from what I remember Hendo was standing way too long in the second and got clipped, then just pulled guard. Sonnen won't waste no time in the stand up

As long as he gets hold, Anderson doesn't have the best TD defence...The danger for Sonnen is that Anderson's good at striking when he's backing away + Chael's gonna have to get within striking rangie or have Anderson up against the cage to execute the TD. If he gets it the ground, Anderson has a good offensive guard and Chael's been caught a few times, so he'll have to be careful...Of course, Vitor Belfort might have something to say about all this.

No.

When the fight went to the second round, Hendo tried to take Silva down with the clinch, before he got caught with the knee. He tried to, Silva leaned against the fence and defended it. When Hendo wasn't finding success, that's when he opened up and starting striking and got caught, and attempted a very weak takedown which he missed (Silva took advantage and submitted him).

The guard pull was much earlier in the round.
And Sonnen will have to set up with strikes to try to close the distance, if he just continues to try to get the clinch, or shoot without any set ups it's likely Anderson will catch him coming in.
