Who was impressed with Tito?

A. His striking isnt great, but it's not like it's royce gracie level. He can hold his own.

B. He has heart

c. Ofcourse has has probably the best Gnp+Top control+sub defense in the LHW division.

d. He is dangerous off his back.

e. He has yet to lose to a TUFer like Shogun and Chuck has. That should say something.

Conclusion: Tito is still a top fighter and impressed me with that sick ass triangle. It's just everyone looks stupid against Machida. Even Soku who has destroyed 3 quality opponents in the first round.

Machida is modern Royce gracie. Nobody had an answer for Royce in the early 90's. Same for Machida now, until a modern Sakuraba comes and hunts him.

Im not a tito hugger, just giving credit where credit is due. He is hard to finish, is well rounded and always brings it.

No one questions Tito's toughness, but his age is showing. He looked slow against Machida.

Tito seems to look dominant against Ken Shamrock and tentative against everyone else.

Personally I think Tito peaked early as a fighter, which is what made him look nearly unbeatable from 1999-2003. The competition caught up and his skills started to diminish.

well alot of your points werent showcased in the fight (his gnp game, for example), but I do agree that I was impressed with his showing. I am not a tito fan and wanted machida to win, but honestly titos standup looked fairly sharp, and his near-submission was equally impressive.

Well he should've lost to Griffin.

But I wasn't exactly impressed by Tito. He didn't go after Lyoto. If you watch the fight, Machida is pushing forward more than Ortiz. Lyoto was always the first to attack. Whether it was kicks or punches, Machida was the aggressor. But I can't blame Tito. Nobody has been able to figure out Lyoto, yet.

I disagree, i've watched the fight a few times on DVR now, and Tito is clearly moving forward more than Machida. Tito tried backing him into the cage on multiple occasions but Lyoto would give a feint and keep moving laterally. Now I understand this is Machida's style, but he was definitely not the aggressor in this fight.

I think Tito looked terrible in that fight, could not figure out Machida at all. He looked how I expected him to, like a guy who hasnt been concentrating on his opponent and more on his fame

Machida was clearly the first to engage. The only reason he would move from left to right when he was near the cage was because he didn't want to be taken down. His whole strategy was to avoid being taken down. Machida wanted to keep his distance and strike with Tito. And as soon as Tito let his guard down, or got frustrated, Lyoto would throw a kick or a quick left.
