How do you view fighting outside your weightclass without gaining weight?

I've seen this discussion a lot lately, especially since it's happening more often. Some people say it shouldn't improve there status in there real weight class since they fought outside of it. While others say that the fight in a higher weight class was a harder fight and should be credited even more then a fight in there real weight class.

I must say, I'm with the guys who say that fighting outside your weight class is more impressive as long as you don't gain weight naturally for it. Take Lindland for example, he weighed in at 202 for the fight with Rampage. That was basically his non-cut weight, he didn't go up to 210+ and cut from there like most LHW. He lost a controversial split decision, and that in my eyes raises his status even more then if he beat a top 5 MW.

Silva is kind of doing the same thing right now. Well he did gain a little weight, but that's because he's normally a very small LHW(just like Ace before he dropped to 185). Although he's not fighting at 205, he is still representing the 205 division in the OWGP. If he wins the whole thing, then he should be #1 at 205 without a doubt. Again that's just the way I see it.

So how do you feel about this?

well Silva is a natural heavy weight, he weighs about the same as crocop, when he is not cutting, so i dont see why this should give hime more credit.

I dont see anyone increasing Overeems rankings, b/c he beat sergei at heavyweight

Silva is normally 210-215 before cutting. He actually gained weight to fight Fujita, that was also the heaviest he has ever weighed in for a fight I think. So if you're comparing his normal non-cut weight when fighting LHW's and Cro Cop's normal weight then I'd say Cro Cop is normally 10-15 pounds heavier.

As for Overeem, if he was still in the OWGP and intended to return to the LHW division after its conclusion, then I do think that should raise his status more as a LHW.

Without a doubt, Norifumi 'Kid' Yamamoto gets the most respect in this criteria
