how big can ufc be outside america

just wondering how successful ufc thinks it can be in europe.

for example im irish and outside of the gym i have never met a average joe who knows much about mma and nothing about ufc plus when i try to describe it first thing they think is the movie bloodsport.
as for uk they cant promote a british boxing ppv live in uk and make money so i cant see majority of uk buying ufc ppv.

what u guys think

It could be huge outside the US. I think a good way to break into the UK and into Mexico is to do EXACTLY the same thing they did to blow up here. Do a Mexican TUF and a UK TUF.

No offense to anyone that likes Contender, but that show isn't exactly great. The only part of that show that is ever worth two shits is the final.

I think that it will be hard to break into any market with little knowledge about the sport of MMA. England has shown that it can work though.

get ricky hatton to train and mma and become successful. that will never happen though, the point is to get someone that fans can relate too, that looks and talks like them, that is why the count is being hyped so much (he deserves it though) but just one fighter will not do it. they need a grip of fighters, it is just like ufc in america (american fighters with a few exceptions) and pride (many, many japanese fighters) pride is definetely deeper thoguh and has more international fighters but fans for the most part like to see someone that resembles them. that is only my opinion though and that really does not mean very much, just ask my boss

I just came back from Japan last week, id ask alot of people Id meet about MMA. First person most would mention would be Kid Yamamoto. When I asked about the UFC almost noone (maybe 1 person, 2 tops)knew what it was. Thats just who I talked to though. UFC appeared in most MMA magazines i saw however.

I agree 100%... because the American market for mma has already bought into the TUF series that they would be willing to watch the UK TUF and the Mexico TUF

The UK does have some MMA events - Cage Rage is the biggest and is getting more popular.

UFC is current shown on Bravo (Sky / Cable TV) but it really needs to be advertised more. Pride is sometimes shown on Eurosport, but it is usually the older events - and the commentator knows *nothing* about MMA (He pronounces Silva's name Wan-der-lay, and calls GnP "Pound and Ground" GRRRRRR!)

UK TUF is not a bad idea actually
