Watching fights does not count(unless you are James Thompson)
Sparring with your friends doesnīt count. They donīt know shit either.
Get your ass over to a decent gym. If there is no MMa gym, find a boxing gym, or a Judo club, or a wrestling club. Get stuck in there and come back in 2 years and tell us all about it.
Good luck!!!
I'll have to disagree a little bit. I have gained a lot of knowledge through watching MMA on television and Youtube etc. I've never trained (other than some crap Karate when I was younger). I've only sparred with one person, my cousin, who was a member of the US Army and had trained a little grappling and BJJ in the Army.
I am 6ft 2, 260 lbs...Yep, a little overweight. I've NEVER been in a fight. My size apparantly is intimidating and I don't get offers for fights much.
I've tapped my cousin, who's smaller than me by about 75 lbs but is a personal trainer, 5 of 9 times I've sparred with him. 2 armbar, 1 kimura, 1 guillotine, and 1 triangle.
I've been in two "fights" over the last 3 months. Both were through attempting to break up a fight. In both situations I easily stopped aggression using a guillotine choke as taught to me by watching Youtube instructions such as Cesar Gracies
Once I can afford to train I will but right now watching is doing the job. Of course I know I'll get tooled when I make it to a gym but I'm doing fine against the regular Joe's right now
