It's funny, because they stand to lose far more than we do by complaining. Not only by not being able to say they were a finalist in a 32-show elimination tournament for best show in HD. It's worse. They're trying to organize a campaign to save their show. This is presumably based mostly on how vocal, dedicated, and passionate they are for the show. If they encourage the pollsters to invalidate it, they're going to be found out, and from then forward no one will believe them anywhere on anything and it will ruin their entire campaign. "We've had 50,000 write-in letters", "Yeah, that's nice. It's probably 20 people, just like last time on that poll. Ignore them. This is why the ratings were low two years in a row."

I haven't even been powervoting since the post-fight rush hit, and kinda wish I hadn't beforehand, since we're legitimately destroying them now. Not that they believe it. We must be cheating, no way the entire MMA community could be outvoting a few hardcore Jericho fans!

But no, an equally passionate but larger community, on a fight weekend has nothing to do with it right? I mean, feck. I've been a member for 3 or 4 months, this weekend is the first time I've bothered to check the Sherdog forums. Between big name fights (New Years was the last), damned if I care what goes on here.

It's funny. They just don't understand how big a difference between a bi-annual fight weekend like Tito/Penn/Silva and a normal weekend. It's not like a 10% boost. It's like 10,000% boost. But it's like evil wizardry to them.

Lame sauce. I wish they'd be a little more gracious in defeat, if that's what it is for them. And I *like* their show.
Great post. I like the one member on the Jericho forums who asked the Moonlight forums to help. The Moonlight guy said, "I voted for Jericho, but you guys aren't beating that HDNet Fights. The entire Moonlight forum voted and got destroyed."

Yeah, apparently they are complaining that we're doing the same thing they are.

Not only that, but if you check their thread on sci-fi, they've been voting out shows that could compete with Jericho from when the polls originally started, sounds a bit shady to me.

What's great is they severely underestimated the MMA fanbase, and were probably responsible for voting us to into the quarter finals since they thought we'd be an easy opponent, that is until everyone here found out about the poll.

I would also take a rather large bet that if they compared individual IP's instead of votes, we'd be winning with a way higher percentage, UFC event night coverage here is insane, I imagine that 10,000-20,000 of our votes are from individual people.

Bah. Sounds like awesome strategic voting to me. The Scifi folks may be paranoid when they're not winning, but you sure couldn't call 'em stupid. I love it. Do you really think Dan Rather's Reports has more active internet voters than Lost? :p Hrm. Where did all of Dan's voters come from?

That's what happens when it's not a single vote but a tournament vote.

I don't mind so much, all of the scifi shows on that list combined still aren't near most of the other shows in popularity (nor are we, 7th seed), so they needed the edge. Perfectly legit and you see it in real politics all the time. It's why the US is so ingrained into a 2-party system. Because by voting for the 3rd party, which will not win in the current election, you give up your ability to choose between the two bigger parties and that vote *does* count. So you see people voting for the lesser of two evils. Or, you see this in sports runs for the playoffs. Sometimes teams are in a position that, by losing a game, they can face and easier team in the playoffs. It's dirty in sports, because sports are supposed to be competitive. It should never be an advantage to lose. But, in voting patterns, my opinion is that it's dumb *not* to vote strategically.

Trivia: For "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" in Russia, when you ask the audience for help, they try to get you to fuck up. (Not relevant, but funny!).

And yeah, I think you're conservative in saying only 10-20k of our votes are individuals. There's maybe ten people who've voted a lot, maybe 50 or 60 who've bothered to clear their cache a handful of times before leaving. And even then, many only bothered to post when prizes were up for grabs. Ditto on their forums I'd say. Even though it looks like "OMFG *everyone* is re-voting", only a tiny percentage of people are willing to camp out and drudge the votes, and in the end they're insignificant.

What was significant was everyone going to the other forums and letting them know, getting out to the gyms and clubs and the email lists and the other countries.

Our big push came from the pre-fight (~12,000), the post-fight (~25,000), and Forum Day (most of the rest).

We'll get one more big push tomorrow probably, from the casual catch-up fans, as everyone comes home from the weekend, checks their email, hits the gym, and read up on what they missed.

If the gap starts to close in the next few days, we'll just have to make another call for people to extend their social network. Especially in places that HDNet Fights is popular, but aren't English. A half-dozen translators posting why the poll is important, and foom. The bottom line is that we're a larger fanbase that's just as active, by necessity, because fights aren't a regular thing quite yet. So we'll win no matter what.

I don't think the Jericho fans are gonna give up that easily. Their show has been cancelled and they're pissed. I'm betting that the last day they're gonna vote like crazy. But they're starting to realize were gonna vote just as much, if not more.

Keep up the good work gentlemen and keep voting!

I can't believe how many of these previous polls HDnet fights has lost. Most of these shows i've never even heard of before.

Hah, here's a great quote from their forums from someone emailing the site webmaster to complain...

Quote:
"I thought i'd make a strong point to swanni as to why our 20-30,000 member internet fan base was getting destroyed by about 20-30 MMA fans who don't want to leave the voting page."
I think it's the other way around.
