Semmy Schilt in Transporter 3.

In the more general sports crossovers, there's obviously The Rock.
Also Jim Brown, who was an original commentator for UFC pre-Zuffa.
O.J. Simpson had a big role in all the Naked Gun movies, so I'm saying he could've had an acting career if he hadn't branched into murder.
Jason Lee (pro skateboarder)
Vinnie Jones (soccer) was in Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Gone in 60 Seconds, Snatch, Swordfish, and X-Men 3.
Am I the only person who has seen Rich Franklins starring role in Cyborg Soldier?

If you are lucky your answer is yes. I had the misfortune of checking out what was new and free on my PPV channel and came across that gem. Due to it being Franklin I tuned and and after about 35 minutes I tuned out.

I've been trying to think of athlete actors and can't think of jack shit aside from the Rock who was successful ie made money and a career of it.

You've seen athletes make movies before, but they don't get careers out of it. Who else other than the Rock? I can't think of any MMA guys in movies other than Jardine and Cung Le, but I'd hardly call them successful. And playing yourself hardly counts ie fighters playing fighters in Blood & Bone lol.

Shamrock and some early UFC guys appeared in Virtuosity, Russell Crowe in a purple suit!

Edit: Oleg Taktarov = very successful career at this point

You actually thought that the Scorpion King with The Rock was good? Yikes.

There have been many successful action heros that came from martial arts and boxing. You've got Sly Stallone, Claude Van Damme, Bruce Lee, Jacky Chan, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, plus you've got other meatheads like The Rock, and Arnold Schwarznegger. None of them are good actors, and if you go back and watch your favorite action movie from the 80s you'd realize that. But they still became significant stars and household names. We do need new action heros -- Bruce Willis and such are just too old. I think one of the MMA guys may make it and be the next Stallone. They'll never make truly good movies, but they might make movies that appeal to next generation of formative teenage guys.

Jet Li's Fearless had Nathan Jones and it was pretty good.

No they get placed in B rated movies or tiny back up rolls. Mart flicks suck now adays. Stick to what you are good at boys and girls. THE REAL THING!
