How many of them were top 5 when he fought them? Randleman wasnt, Overeem wasn't, Wanderlei wasn't, Busta wasn't. That leaves Pele (was he?), Babalu (not sure), Couture II (yes), Tito I (yes), Vitor (yes).

Good thread.
Not to mention when he fought Pete Spratt, I don't know what exact rank Spratt was, but I know he was at least top ten. Spratt was coming off a dominating win over Robbie Lawler before GSP beat him. I don't know what rank Miller was either at the time, but I know he was up there too.

Fedor has way more than five victories over top ten comp.
Aside from youir four,
Mark Hunt was top ten (beat Mirko a year ago)
Heath Herring (second best heavyweight in Pride only to Nogueira at the time)
Kevin Randleman (also had just beat Cro Cop and was top ten at the time)
I'm sure I can come up with more, but there's your seven. I really hate raining on a GSP parade because I think he's awesome. But to say Fedor, who has beaten every good heavyweigt of the past decade, only has four wins over top ten competition is downright insulting.

We're talking TOP 5 here, not top 10.

Dude AWESOME job on the thread. GSP has fought stiffer comp than anyone. Revenged all losses.

You're right, except for the fact that the TS is talking about TOP 5 wins, not TOP 10.

GSP has 7 victories agaisnt top 5 guys (who were considered top 5 WW when he fought them).
I'll use MMAWeekly rankings, they are not perfect but they are accurate most of the time.
Frank Trigg: Was ranked #2 WW in the world at the time. That fight was promoted as the "who is the second best WW in the world".
Sean Sherk: Was ranked #4 in the world at the time. His only loss was a decision to Matt Hughes.
BJ Penn: Was ranked #3 WW in the world behind Hughes and GSP. He had never lost the WW belt that he took from Hughes. Once again, the fight was promoted as "who's the second best WW in the world".
Matt Hughes (II): Was #1 WW in the world.
Josh Koscheck: Was #5 WW in the world. That was after his victory over Diego.
Matt Hughes (III): Was #3 WW in the world* (Serra was champ and was awarded the #1 spot)
Matt Serra: Was #1 by default (champ).
Can you name one other fighter with 7 victories over top 5 competition?
For the record, Fedor has 4:
Big Nog X 2, Cro Cop, Sylvia.
A. Silva has 3:
Franklin X 2, Hendo
Chuck? No. (other top LHW were in Pride)
Shogun? No. (he has 3: Rampage, Lil Nog, Arona)
Kid? Gomi? Saku? Go ahead, try to find another one
Then come back to Sherdog and tell us how overrated GSP is.

marquardt is and was a ranked middleweight. tito, randy, vitor, babalu were all ranked.
