Anyone else disappointed that Maia didn't try to stand with Herman?

I'm looking at this gif, and I can't help but observe what's wrong with this picture because it absolutely begs the question- WHY DIDN'T MAIA STAND WITH HERMAN?!?!?

I just wanted to say how disappointed I am with Maia. I know you can grapple. But what you haven't proven to me is how willing you are to scrap the advantages you have over other fighters, and beat them at their game.

Obviously yes, he's got the advantage over Herman on the ground. But given his 2007 ADCC championship and being a 3 time World Cup champ, why not stand with Ed instead? Why not PROVE that he's willing to put the "mixed" in mixed martial arts even though such a decision could cost him the fight? What good is all that jiu jitsu if you're gonna use it all the time instead of showing your opponent you're smart enough to try different things regardless of how bad you are at them?

Edit: since this thread is still somehow going please see the following thread for reference. I'm not being critical I swear!
Anyone disappointed in GSP for not wanting to stand?

Yeah because Ed Herman is a knockout artist... he did beat Herman at his own game.

How do you not get the point of the T.S. I simply don't understand. He is referring to all the Gsp should have stood more with Serra threads. T.s I totally agree with your mocking of those types of criticisms. Well done.

I absolutely believe it.

I BELIEVE Gomi was a fool for not trying to outgrapple Aurelio in the rematch instead of trying to outstrike him.

I think Hughes was a moron for not trying to score the high kick KO on GSP at 79.

I think JZ should have continued standing with Dida after getting knocked down, and I can't believe Dong wasn't willing to keep it on the feet against Manhoef.

Mixed martial arts is not about implementing your gameplan, and forcing someone to fight you on your own terms in the atmosphere you're most comfrtable with/it's about pleasing bloodthirsty fans and showing the Sherdog community that the best way to win is to outstrike the striker, and outgrapple the grappler.

I came into this thread with terrible intentions for the TS until I saw it was you. Well done on making the sarcasm REALLY ooze out.
