The Great Saku Debate.... Lets End This One

Sakuraba.... just how overrated is he?

His biggest claim to fame is beating several Gracies and wearing funny outfits, acutally they aren't really funny. ANYTIME Sakuraba's legacy is brought into question, everyone on this board jumps all over that person with such claims as.. "HES A LEGEND!", "HE ALWAYS FOUGHT ABOVE HIS WEIGHT!!!!", "HE BEAT GRACIE!!"

Okay first of all, Im not questioning if hes a legend, he introduced many people to Pride and is a fairly decent, yet overrated entertainer. Just how innovative were the techniques he introduced? Mongolian Chops?? ''Ooooh so funny! He so funny!" Cartwheel Pass? How many times has that move been done succesfully? The only real innovative thing he has done were his jumping stomps... that was a nice idea.. everything else was pretty retarded, and only amusing if you are a third grader.

Second, everyone likes to say he fought above his weight. Are we supposed to feel sorry for him? How can you use that as an argument to validate someone? It is his fault he fought at that weight, noone forced him, and in the end, he still loss. If you truly are skilled.. ten pounds here, 10 pounds there wont make too much of a difference. You shouldnt be able to scan a fighters record and validate his losses.. because at the end of the day.. he still loss, no matter what his natural weight was.

And natural weight doesnt really exist, its just a great excuse for nuthuggers.

Yes, he did beat Gracies.. I do realize that, he was the first multi dimensional fighter to capitalize on a broken formula. Congratulations.

In the end, really look at this mans record, he has some nice wins, but he has been crushed, absolutely crushed to be considered top five anything, much less the greatest fighter of all time like he is often referred to as.

Everyone says he will dominate at a lower weight, we have never seen him do it, SAKURABA'S LEGACY RESTS ON SPECULATION, WHAT HE WOULD HAVE DONE, WHAT HE SHOULD HAVE DONE.

Sakuraba has a Mike Tyson like legacy.. "imagine what he would have done, he had all the potential in the world" but in the end, just like Tyson he is a myth.

Atleast Tyson won a couple of titles right?

Oh, and the Saku Title... it isnt an actual belt.

Wow - did he cheat with your g/f on you or something? You got some hate issues.

edit: I never claimed he was ranked top 5, and I think thats a mistake lots of people make. He is just really fun to watch - but hasn't beat top 5 guys for a long time. As for his creativity - try to pay attention to his guard passes and his wrestling. A lot of the really neat stuff he does isn't so obvious (esp. if you're just a random hater w/out real grappling exp).

And ya he did beat Gracie - IN A 90 MINUTE FIGHT! That alone cements his legend status so bite me hater.

It's like arguing evolution with a creationalist - you obviously aren't gonna change you mind or listen to reason so why bother? Besides, its easier to just mock you.

If you truly are the greatest MMA fighter of all time.... would fighting at ten pounds above your desired weight totally ruin you? Its not like they are arm wrestling, its about technique, and technique doesnt desolve after ten pounds.
