Great fighters who did very little in 06
lil nog
Only 1 fight this year and it was against an injured Overeem. Hes been in some boxing matches this year so that might be the reason hes been inactive. Next year is already busier for him with a match against wandelei already being lined up.
Arona
only one fight again against overeem. I remember reading he was injured in the early half of the year, but it would have been nice to see him at the real deal or shockwave. My guess is hes been waiting for a rematch with silva just like lil nog.
david terrel
1 fight. Pretty controversial win over scott smith. So much potential is going to waste here because the guy seems to be prone to injuries. terrel/okami has been scrapped twice i believe and with rumors the okami/swick in the works, the ufc might have just dropped terrell completely. Cant blame them if they did.
evan tanner
one fight with a win over justin levens. I like tanner and really thought he was going to make a comeback after a disapointing 05. Instead, he ran off and became grizzly adams while doing some soul searching. Id love to see him try again in 07, but im not sure if hes even training anymore. If he does come back, heres one vote for him keeping the fro and beard.
heath herring
beat gary goodridge in his only fight of the year. Herring's whole career has been on pause in the two years since he signed with k1. Last year he injured himself against sam greco and then there was the famous incident with nakao. He had the goodridge fight this year was supposed to fight pedro rizzo on the WFA december card, but then the WFA folded. Luckily, he is with the UFC now and should be making regular appearences again in 07. Im not sure what to expect from him though.
Rampage
He had 2 fights, but neither of them did much to help his standings in the 205 rankings. He was unable to finish win-lees judoka Dong Sik Yoon and almost lost to Matt Lindland who regulary fights at 185. Signing with the WFA really slowed him down this year, but if he never did it, he might not have been picked up by the UFC for next year. From this slow year, we can look forward to Rampage having a HUGE year next year on his way to becoming a star in the US.
Igor vovchanchyn
ZERO fights in 06 and really no word at all from the ice cold one. Every week sherdog is blessed with countless "Wheres Igor" threads and assumptions that he is retired. I personally have not seen any official word on what igor has been up to all year. This can lead many to believe he has retired, but im not so sure. Igor in 05 didnt have the most success, but it was obvious he had brought his ground game to a higher level and was in great shape. He is one of my favorites of all time and i wish to see him in 07.
