good mma fighters with bad wrestling skills

and I mean bad by UFC standards

Frank Shamrock
got outwrestled by Renzo Gracie and had trouble getting off the bottom
was taken down at will by tito ortiz

Rich Franklin
looked like a helpless child in the clinch with Anderson Silva...twice
could not keep Anderson Silva down on the mat

feel free to add others

in terms of defensive wrestling especially, bisping and fisher. they're very good strikers though, as well as having good submissions. i'd say franklin's takedowns are average, silva has a good sprawl. franklin has good takedown defence though (see the macdonald fight).

Atlhough he dosen't fight much mma anymore, semmy schilt had awful td defence.considering how tall he was, he should have learned to use his leverage better.

Come on now... Franklin doesn't belong in this thread. Having trouble dealing with a muay-thai clinch as deadly as Silva's isn't an indictment on his wrestling (his ability to handle a muay-thai striker? sure). Franklin's wrestling has shown to be pretty good in his other fights (and he was able to take Silva down in the rematch). Most notably his takedown defense is well above average which is really where his wrestling is understandably geared toward.

If struggling with muay-thai strikers and getting murdered in the clinch by them means your wrestling sucks, let's talk about Rampage...

Wrestling isn't exclusively about getting takedowns (see Chuck Liddell).
