Fit and Fat is a myth, heres the evidence

Exercise-heart study casts doubt on 'fit but fat' theory on Yahoo! Health

im a huge fan of mark hunt, i love josh barnett and alot of other bigger/fatter fighters but the idea everyone has on sherdog(and ive read numerous times) where people believe these fallacies of

"mark hunt has abs under his fat and is really got amazing cardio"

or "butterbean is in shape" hahha

overweight guys are out of shape, its not just genetics, ITS REAL

I think when people talk about that on here they are referring to cardio and muscle endurance...whether these guys will keel over from a heart attack is another story.

Well guys like Hunt and Butterbean are really overweight.

But you can be overweight and have good cardio. Forget the fight game, i've seen it in front of me. Chances are that if you work out a lot you burn a lot of calories, thus eliminating fat. But if you eat a TON and work out, you can still get fat...and you'll still have decent cardio.

Everyone's different as well. genetics play a huge part in how you look.

Yeah, too bad they used BMI as an indicatos... BMI is bullshit, especially when applied to athletes.

The amount of body fat around the waist is a huge health factor for men and women. However great cardio is a start, and if the cholestorol and blood pressure are good they are considered in good health. Never mind the risk of othe illness or dieases that come from to much unneeded weight.

i hope mark hunt has abs under his fat....otherwise he wouldnt be alive.

put it this way, i have low bodyfat but mark hunt would annihilate me in anything having to do with aerobic or anaerobic conditioning...im gonna have to say he's pretty fit.

Truth. I'm 5 11 and when I calculate my "ideal" BMI it says I should be 155 pounds.
That was what I weighed when I was 16 and I'm 34 now. I would be sickly at that weight.
I weigh about 189 and probably could lose 10 pounds but no way I should be lower than 175.

I think you have to consider that this study was about like, average 50 yearold women, not MMA fighters in their 20's and 30's. I think that has to have some impact on how we view MMA fighters carrying extra weight.

Most cardio athletes are relatively low body fat (this woman triathlete is 5%) but you see a lot of linemen or guys in explosive power sports who are carrying 20% body fat.
