Fighting-the career point of view and examples we learn!

Ok trying to change the subject a little from the last UFC and all the wars going on in the forum with Pride vs UFC and all, one guy posted about wacthing Mark Kerrs smashing machine documentary and its a topic i wanted to talk about for a while really and its fighting as a career and how some fighters like Mark Kerr were the headlining names on Pride cards back then and had all the chances in the world and how they are really has-beens now with not much to show for it.

For fighters on this forum who actually compete, do you have such a passion for MMA that it doesnt matter where u end up in it? Small town event champ, UFC contender, world champion...is it all the same to you as long as you are doing what you like?

Or do u have the tito ortiz theory of looking at retirement while your at the begining? Its a short career and you dont know what condition you will be in a year or two from now, so whats your plan?

I met Shonie carter in person, colorful character with the whole pimp image and all, great guy in person and been in the martial art game since back in the day, the guy isnt young and isnt anywhere near to being financially stable, supports his kid and is actually looking poor! Considering the number of fights he has had and the events he has been in, should this guy be taking public transport and struggling to make it?

Randy couture, in his last 3 fight made more than all the past combined, retired and has more than he will ever need, good career plan? or retired too old as tito would put it?

Tito ortiz, got his clothing thing going, acting in small movies, making good fight money and only wants to fight 2-3 more years, great plan or sell out? is he betraying MMA because he is watching out for his bank account? Is Ricco considered more of an MMA hardcore guy because he will fight small events in exchange for burgers?

I was a hardcore into the training and wanting to do it just because i loved it, but when i was injured and foud myself begging to pay my medical bills it changed my long term plan, props to those who do this for a living and dont get paid much, but i took time off to work and save money and now i have a plan where i can fight and it doesnt matter if i ever make it to the big events or not because i can always afford a good car and to eat good and travel and not ever need to borrow from anyone.

Yes i am at work and very bored thats why this post is so long
