Icon4 Fedor vs. Lindland : Showed Couture can beat Fedor ..

It's a fact Fedor is the greatest fighter in MMA today and possibly ever. For any fighter to go undefeated after 25 fights is unreal, but to do it against the highest level of competition is mind boggling. What makes Fedor unique is his versatility. He is a 3 tool fighter who can wrestle, strike and submit at the highest levels.

However, with all that said, I think Fedor can be beaten and I now give Randy Couture a great chance to be the first fighter to hand Fedor a loss. His first real loss, not like the :17 second stoppage due to a cut that shows up on his record.

Why do I believe Couture can beat Fedor all of the sudden?

Fedor vs. Lindland : After watching that fight I know Randy was licking his chops to get a crack at Fedor next.

I was shocked that when the bell rang Lindland rushed over to meet Fedor and threw some nice shots (one of which cut Fedor badly) and then lifted Fedor off his feet and went for the slam. However, Fedor grabbed the ropes and ended up on top of Lindland which dramatically changed the outcome of this fight. Who knows if Lindland would've won, but we know for sure had Fedor not cheated by grabbing the ropes Lindland would've been on top of Fedor who was already busted up. Maybe Fedor sweeps Lindland and still wins, but maybe Lindland throws some elbows and gets a stoppage due to that cut.

Both Lindland and Couture are Olympic Greco-Roman wrestlers. What I see with Randy is a more powerful Lindland who could do everthing Lindland could and more. The wrestling would be there and if Randy could strike the way he did in the first Liddell fight or as he did against Sylvia then his chances improve dramatically.

What Randy could take away was from that fight was this:
  1. Fedor an be hit .
  2. Fedor can be taken down.
  3. If a MW Greco-Roman wrestler can give Fedor trouble then surely a HW Greco-Roman wrestler can actually win
Although I now think Fedor can be beat after watching the Lindland fight, I would still pick Fedor to beat Randy because of his versatility. Even if Randy were able to take Fedor down he would still have to keep him there and contend with Fedor submitting him. To beat Fedor we would have to see the best Randy Couture we've ever seen. I just hope this fight can happen while Fedor is at the top and while Randy is still able to compete at such a high level.

Thoughts?

Lindland got a lucky cut then got reversed(possible with some help from the ropes) and subbed inside 3 mins, I'm not sure how that prooves Randy would beat Fedor.

We've already seen Fedor taken down by the likes of Coleman and Randleman in the past yet they were both also subbed equally quickly. Surely that shows that Fedor is dangerous off his back and can really turn it on when he needs to. The kind of fighter i see potentially causing him problems is someone with both brilliant wrestling and an equally good submission game to keep him on his back.

His matchs agenst Crocop, Nog, Semmy and Coleman 2 where he was playing it safe from a dominant position alot of the time seem to blinded people to just how quickly he can finish people when he has to, either because there no threat like Zulu/Ogawa or because they have him in a bad position like Lindland, Coleman 1, Fujita and Randleman.

Not really related to your post so but take it as a slight but I love the idea that Randy going out to win a cut stoppage agenst Fedor is considered the height of brilliance yet Vitor's win over him by the same method is totally dismissed.

If anything, it showed he can't. Lindland is a better wrestler than Couture, so if he couldn't beat fedor, why would Randy be able to?

Fedor grabbed a rope? I missed that.

And yeah, Couture would whipe Fedors ass just like Coleman and Randleman would who are even better wrestlers than Couture.

Didn't TK show everyone how to beat Fedor? Why do you guys think he's not in the UFC?

UFC + Legal elbows = doens't need to get ko'd to be beaten. You don't even have to hurt him. All you gots to do is get that one good shot in, like linland, but stay alive long enough for Fedor to bleed all over the place. Someone is going to do this to him and half of you are going to say it's cheap and the other half are going to hail them for it.
I'm tellin' ya...
