Fedor vs Arona Rings Fight

I just watched this on Youtube and I'm amazed how Fedor got the decision. Unless there are parts that are ommited from the fight on Youtube, I think it should have been an easy UD for Arona. Maybe Rings has a very different way of scoring fights, but the way I see it:

Both fighters seemed to score minimal damage on their feet, and striking on the ground was minimal.

Arona took Fedor down 3 times in the 1st 2 rounds and twice in OT. He had advantageous positioning for the majority of the fight...he had mount, side mount, back control. Fedor had a few guilotine and leg lock attempts, but none were very close. I just don't see any possible way Fedor got this decision...under common sense, UFC rules, Pride rules etc

...so are Rings judges just retarded or am I missing something here?

BTW, this is in the Heavyweights forum as Fedor and Arona are best know through Pride so save the flames for this being in another forum.

Fair enough, but I didn't feel like sorting through the 50,000 Fedor posts to find this topic.

In Rings the scoring is very different compared to Pride or the UFC. The fighters don't get rewarded for takedowns and mount, but mainly for attempts to finish the fights. That's why a fighter on his back going for submissions will beat a fighter who have him in full mount, or scores big takedowns.
Fedor played the rules perfectly in that fight. Arona did not. Arona went for takedowns and mount, which gave him little or none points with the judges.

the fight was close but as MONODC said.........the scoring system is different.....

PLUS, dont forget that in rings, your not allowed to punch a downed opponent in the face, thus eliminating the majority of fedors GnP
