Hype of Couture worse than Chuck?

Chuck Liddell received a ton of coverage, publicity, and hype leading up to the Jackson fight. Dana went so far as say that Chuck was one of the best, if not the best, fighters in MMA. This was repeated in numerous sporting articles. Chuck and his fight received the attention of ESPN, Sports Illustrated, Fox Sports, etc., etc.

As we all know, Chuck followed all this by getting TKO'd in roughly half a second.

Currently, Randy Couture is receiving much the same treatment. The big "guys" so to speak, Fox, ESPN, etc. are starting to hone in on Couture, Couture, Couture...

If you feel that the extremely anti-climactic fight was a missed opportunity to really showcase what MMA is all about, do you fear that two in a row might be deadly?

I will say the same thing I said before the Chuck/Jackson fight: it doesn't matter who wins... So MANY people will be watching this fight to see Couture that it JUST NEEDS to be GOOD! I'm talking Gomi/Diaz, Fedor/Cro Cop, Griffin/Guida, and BJ Penn/GSP.

It would also be great if the GSP/Kos fight is a battle.

I don't get it? Chuck and Randy are great fighters (win or lose)... but so are there opponents. When belts are on the line, that's how it should be.

Everyone feels like poster boys losing is a bad thing. It’s a fight… people lose. I think it legitimizes the sport.

If you always want to see a “sure thing” winner watch Movies, the WWE or Boxing.

I repeat, it doesn't matter WHO wins, just as long as it's not a SHITTY fight like the Liddell/Jackson fight.

Does that make sense? If Randy, or Gonzaga for that matter, gets TKO'd in 35 seconds, I think it would be another disappointing missed opportunity like the Liddell/Jackson fight.

It will only reinforce the opinions of those who think MMA is a crap shoot. The problem is, like the Liddell fight, we all know there is a very good chance Gonzaga will end this fight quickly and brutally.

i actually disagree Randy really doesnt get that much hype. He has good amount of media coverage, but its the same you would see with any professional athelete. When Randy retires he needs to be one of the ring talker guys.

Look at who Couture has beat and tell me if its hype or truth. The guy has beat some awesome fighters and most of those wins versus those awesome fighters have been in the underdog role

Right, because a five-time world champ and a guy who knocked out nine guys in a row are obviously paper tigers.

Man, I hope that Vitor, Tito, Babalu, Jeremy Horn, or Randy and Chuck themselves never read this. It might be kinda depressing for them to know that they're not at that level.

And by "lost badly," who--other than Chuck in the third fight--has Randy been dominated by? Barnett and Ricco beat him, but they didn't destroy him.
