Fedor Emelianenko vs Gabriel Gonzaga - A great match for both fighters!

Fedor Emelianenko

Gabriel Gonzaga

Gonzaga

Gabriel Gonzaga shocked the world by knocking out the international superstar in Mirko "Crocop" Filipovic and now has his eyes set on Randy "The Natural" Couture in a title fight. Gabriel has a great shot at winning the title but, what will be in this stars future if he able to defeat the Hall of Famer?

...Fedor Emelianenko?

Let me take you through an in-depth comparison of the two fighters.

Stand-up
Fedor has exceptional stand-up but I don't see Fedor having his was with Gonzaga on the feet if this fight remains standing. I see Fedor bouncing around trying to load up a couple of power shot that will have little to no effect of Gonzaga because he circles really well. It seems like Gonzaga fights an intelligent fight on the feet and he tries to incorporate different styles into his stand-up (muay thai, boxing etc) to put his opponent off guard. Fedor, on the other hand, seems to find a way to impress his fans with his superior striking skills and his aura of invincibility. I think they both will have their hands full with the stand-up and it could go either way on the feet.

*notes for stand-up* Great Chins and Great Recovery

Ground Game

Again, I don't see Fedor GNPing Gonzaga out because he is world class in grappling/submissions and has a brick for a chin not to mention that he is extremely strong.
Fedor seems to be versed in subs and grappling and can easily have a great day like usual and KO Gonzaga because anything is possible. Gonzaga makes a mistake, Fedor will easily capitalize on the ground and vice versa.

*notes for ground game* Known for strong subs and aguably feared on the ground

I would love to see this fight, please don't flame me for a justified opinion. I was unbiased while doing this comparison and I would appreciate a mature debate if you disagree.

Thank You

A good argument.

From what I understood of Gonzaga's game, and I could be completely wrong on all accounts, was that he was more comfortable as a ground fighter. While I won't call his KO over CroCop a fluke, it was certainly uncharacteristic.

I really see Fedor controlling the entire bout, and taking it anywhere he would want to go. Napao could certainly pull the upset, as Mark Hunt had Fedor in the submission attempt.

Gonzaga doesn't bring anything to the table that Minotauro didn't have. In fact I think Minotauro is far more dangerous than Gonzaga. Seeing as how Fedor easily handled Minotauro twice, then I don't see Gonzaga doing anything different. In fact I think Fedor would pound Gabriel unconscious in the guard.

For some strange reason the only fighter I see giving Fedor trouble would be Randy Couture. I think Fedor is far more talented and better as a fighter than Couture but I just have a weird feeling that Randy would really step up and do the impossible like he has done throughout his career.

It's just one of those weird hunches I have. I am really curious to see if the UFC can sign Fedor and see what matches they can pull off.

That would be a great fight, but i really want to see the outcome between randy and gabe. Its a little bit to early to be saying gonzaga is heavy competator yet. However, he did rock CroCop, but CroCop has been rocked before so you dont know, gonzagas true power yet.

I love how most people on here would put off writing term papers, but will gladly give doctoral thesis on MMA with proper grammer.

Exactly bro..... Big Nog has a legendary chin. I thought Bob Sapp was going to kill Nog when he was on top smashing his head in. Nog has taken the hardest shots from the biggest punchers.

If Fedor hit Gabe Gonzaga with a shot like that? Get ole' Gonzaga a pillow cuz he's going night night....

GG would lose standing up and on the ground. GG would put up a challenge, but fedor has experince, whereas GG has so few fights. fedor has sambo and gg has jj. so who's really more well rounded?
