Keith Jardine vs. Tito Ortiz? No. Jardine vs. Machida? No. Jardine vs. ?? Coming Soon

"Rumors that rising light heavyweight contender Keith Jardine (13-3-1 MMA, 5-2 UFC) might be added to an already-star-studded UFC 82 event apparently have no basis.

Sources close to the fighter today told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that Jardine’s future is uncertain but that he’s definitely not expecting to be part of UFC 82, which takes place March 1 in Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio."

"Team Jackson fighter is in something of a holding pattern for now. He was a possible opponent for either Lyoto Machida or Tito Ortiz, but the two fighters were recently booked for their own fight together, according to Ortiz. Insiders tell MMAjunkie.com that UFC executives are banking on a future rematch between Jardine and Forrest Griffin (Jardine TKO’d him in December 2006), but Griffin will first serve as a coach on “The Ultimate Fighter 7” and then fight current champ Quinton Jackson for the title this summer."

THETAKEDOWN BREAKDOWN: How can you let the guy who beat Chuck Liddell sit on the sidelines for so long? You have to capitalize on the victory, similar to what they did with Houston Alexander. The win fizzles the longer you wait. Chuck Liddell is now more than a month removed from a fight he had AFTER losing to Jardine. I like a Jardine-Forrest, Jardine-Tito, or a Jardine-Machida fight, now what will we get? He won't fight Evans. Look for another pointless match up that will put Jardine against a non ranked fighter which does nothing for Jardine or the UFC.

This is what I think will happen with rampage. He won't be fighting until at least august. That is a very long time for rampage to be playing around. How can you stay focused with almost a year off?

some good points made..and most other fighters they have, they aren't willing to risk being thrown in to jardine and risk them losing for marketability purposes.

Jardine-Wandy would be a great fight, but honestly, Jardine deserves more than Chuck leftovers! It should be Jardine-Machida for true #1 contender. Jardine-Soko would be interesting also, but still Jardine should be rewarded for beating Chuck, not pushed onto the sidelines.

I don't know, 205lbs is really f'd up right now...maybe a rematch w/ Wilson Gouveia, but that would really suck for Jardine.

It almost has to be one of those fights because honestly all the other good 205s are tied up on other events against other fighters. I think Sokoudjou is the only one that comes to mind that isnt scheduled to fight other than the ones you mentioned above.

I can almost guaruntee Rua vs Jardine. At least that's my best guess.
