Faber - Suspended 6-months (hand injury)

Apparently Faber injured his hand at some point in the fight. He has been put on a 180 day medical suspension. 6-months is a long time and certainly not good for the WEC because he is the face of the organization. It does say he can be cleared early by a doctor. Hopefully the injury is one that he can recover from a little faster and released to fight before 6-months!

Source: Eleven WEC 34 fighters issued medical suspensions | MMAjunkie.com

Full list of medical suspension:

* Alex Nogueira: 60-day suspension due to a cut; coincides with a 45-day suspension (with no contact for 30 days) due to suffering a knockout
* Luis Do Santos: 45-day suspension with no contact for 30 days due to suffering a knockout
* Jeremy Lang: 180-day suspension days due to a left-ankle injury; coincides with 60-day suspension for a cut and a 45-day suspension (with no contact for 30 days) due to suffering a knockout
* Will Robeiro: 180-day suspension due to a right-hand injury (can be cleared early by doctor)
* Rob McCullough: 60-day suspension due to a cut
* Chuck Grigsby: indefinite suspension due to a head injury (must be cleared by a doctor)
* Mark Munoz: 180-day suspension due to a right-hand injury
* Yoshiro Maeda: 180-day suspension due to a right-eye orbital injury; coincides with 45-day suspension with no contact for 30 days due to suffering a knockout
* Miguel Torres: 60-day suspension due to a cut
* Jens Pulver: 180-day suspension due to a right-eye orbital injury
* Urijah Faber: 180-day suspension due to a right-hand injury (can be cleared early by doctor)

You don't realize how shitty it is to hurt your hands or feet until it happens. I broke my thumb and had to wear a cast up to my elbow to keep it straight.

I am wondering when in the fight he injured it. If is is severe enough that they put him on a 6-month suspension.

Also, he had to know it was injured but never mentioned it post-fight etc. That my friends is class because I don't know how many times fighters say that they could have done even better if they didn't hurt their hand.

No problem. I like to review these when they come out and I know there are always others that want this information as well.

i did notice in the fight he kept opening his hand and shaking it. the suspension does seem really long. i wonder if they can be appealed after your injury has healed. chances are faber probably wasnt gonna fight for a while anyway.

Even more impressive how faber could go on with a broken hand. But it wouldnt be a suprise if he had it broken, those huge swings he kept firing away and with those thin mma gloves offering about no protection.

Yeah, if it was hurt early on then it makes his win even more impressive. It could explain why he couldn't close the show as well, why it went to decision. Still impressed he never brought it up when so many would have.
