I see what you're saying, but we can't compare Gretzky to Shamrock. Hockey and been around a long time before Gretzky came around, and Bobby Orr and Gordie Howe and many other guys had already pioneered the sport. Wayne just took it to another level. Sort of like the guys we're seeing today in MMA. Secondly Wayne is the Greatest hockey player that ever lived and it's hard to imagine another man ever living up to that. Ken is not even close to the greatest fighter that ever lived, he wasn't even the greatest fighter of his time, but he did help pioneer the sport and deserves credit for that.

Well, for those who were only born in 1993?
Ken Shamrock actually had the only skill set that f ucked up the Gracies back in the day.
Now we know Gracie Jiu Jitsu fighters in MMA are an oxymoron, with a few exceptions.
Jeez, who the fuck are you to ask a question like that?

Lets just say he has stayed in the game for waaaayyyy too long. Ken is a pioneer of the sport and was a fan favorite while in his prime. Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie got this party rolling.

He did do a lot for the sport though and was fighting at a time where it wasn't the cool thing to do. He is def a legend, but not one of the greatest fightest of all time.

Ken was more sophisticated than some other early fighters, most of whom had no experience w/ submission wrestling. He was less sophisticated than Royce, IMO.
I thought Ken showed some class in his early fights. I think it was w/ Royce that Ken tapped, the ref missed it and Royce let him go. Rather than sucker punching Royce, he told the ref he'd tapped.
I also think he didn't notice he got old and his skills were out of date. That happens to a lot of athletes who were good once. I don't understand why so many people on here dislike him so much.

Ken wasn't always washed up and put up a lot of exciting fights when the sport was young.
There was a time not too long ago when he was an undisputed top five fighter, BUT he never adapted.
Shammy is old school, and unapologetically so, but he has made undeniable contributions to MMA.
